Hello there anyone tried some of the new medications? - Recently started seeing my Kidney specialist and I just forwarded them what I see the FDA just approved end of April for CKD/Diabetes etc.
"Farxiga (dapagliflozin), a type 2 diabetes drug, has been approved as a treatment for chronic kidney disease by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as noted in an FDA news release. The new approval means that Farxiga has been found to be an effective treatment for chronic kidney disease, regardless of whether a person has diabetes."
Waiting on an answer from the Nurse P. and the Doctor.

My nephologist said he is aware of this drug being approved for CKD treatment but does not reccomend it. Its being advertised a lot of TV for diabetes. Listening to the possible side effects are scary. Make sure you check those out. Keep us posted.
Farxiga is still listed as a drug that should not be taken by anyone with CKD. How much help that it will be is still unknown. Perhaps in the early stages, but again, it's efficacy is not yet known and that's why physicians will probably not prescribe. Also, the cost is prohibitive at over $500.00 per month.FYI, another drug Wegovy has been authorized but it is not yet available to pharmacies. It's an injectable. Max dose is 2.4 ml and has to be worked up to that dosage over several months. That cost is even higher at approx. $1,300.00 per month.
A kidney-friendly meal plan, exercise, hydration, and keeping any underlying conditions under control are still the best ways to slow the progression of CKD.
I actually read about this, and you reminded me that I wanted to check out this treatment. I have had good results with diet modification, but I am curious.
pharmaceutical-technology.c... According to this it works for people with high Albumin, which I don't have, and if you are on a type of ace inhibitor, also of which I am not. I don't think I would qualify under those guidelines. I may ask my Nephrologist, just out of curiosity of what he says, the next time I see him.
