GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD

I have had results for this test from 2016 onwards and they range from 57 the lowest to 76.

My latest result is

74ml/min/1.73m2 ( >90ml/min/1.73m2)

What concerns me is the fact that the last 8 tests have come back as ABNORMAL, yet no-one has shown the slightest concern.

Do I have something to worry about as I have read that a reading greater than 60 is normal.

I am both confused and obviously worried.

Hi, I don't have any particular assistance/advice, but mine was 110 as long as I remember, and the last 3 readings (I've had 3 for various other reasons) were 91, 91, and, just from last week, 77. NO ONE is concerned. I have been totally baffled and am told it's normal by my PP, a nephrologist, and holistic kidney specialist.

I don't want something to be wrong, but a 40 point DECREASE in 18 months is normal?? I am told fluctuation is normal, but this is not fluctuating. This is going down rapidly. I don't get it at all. But unless your #s are really out of range, no one in the medical community seems concerned. I totally empathize!

I guess just work on improving your diet to ensure it is kidney-friendly, which is what I am doing. There's not much the medical community would do anyway, if they acknowledged a problem, except tell you to improve your diet and make lifestyle changes to make it kidney friendly. I think, for me, the only way to get over the worry is make sure you are doing everything in your power to help your numbers. Good luck.

Here are links on explaining the eGFR. Were the same blood test for GFR given? kidney.org/atoz/content/gfr. Another link to the MDRD and CKD-EPI tests. niddk.nih.gov/health-inform...

Yes, same blood test, which is called GFR calculated abbreviated MDRD and the normal range is >90ml/min/1.73m2 and all mine have been lower than that ranging from 57 to 76 with the latest being 74ml/min/1.73m2. Having said that my serum creatinine levels have been classed as NORMAL. So not any the wiser.

This KDIGO webinar is an hour long and mostly boring, but there is evidence to support a urine test along with eGFR to improve treatment for early ckd. I think that it is worth your time.

you are right to be concerned. One one gets concerned until it is too late. At stage 2, you might be able to reverse the damage. Change your diet: eat plant based and if you are doing anything else unhealthy, change that too.

Just use the average number or the lowest one. Then set your goals.
