My GP didn't notice my kidney issue. After struggling to get the surgery to have any continuity a GP read the blood test panicked when they realised how bad it was and withdrew all medication pending a consultant appointment. As you can imagine this made me very ill. I was three time my size with water. Went to a kidney scan and was told to go straight to A&E where they put me into emergency as my heart was in big trouble. I am now seeing a kidney consultant. They put me on loads of meds and now added doxisozin but I am worried as I can feel the water rising after one tablet and my legs are not working very fatigued.

Do you know your gfr and creatinine, have you been asked to prepare for dialysis, are your potassium, sodium and phosphorus levels within range.

I know that I am 25% in the blood tests done in October it was 22% in September. I have the letter with readings but do not really understand them and consultant has not explained. I continue to battle with high Blood pressure consultant is trying to reduce. I am on insulin and my blood sugar is improving. Doxizozin does reduce the blood pressure but has lots of side effects for me so not sure if there is an alternative. Thank you for replying to my post

There are lots of alternatives to Doxacosin, but it would depend on things like your potassium levels, because Losartan and Lisinopril, Ramipril all contain potassium. What’s your blood pressure, do you have a machine at home to measure it.

I take 10 ramapril, 5 bisoprolol, and digoxin for atrial I am on apixaban and insulin fib. blood pressure averages out around 140/150 and jump to 170 on odd days and needs to be 130. No idea what these all mean but these are the readings - Urine ACR 80

Na 139 K 5.4 Bicarbonate 27 Cr 203 eGFR 23

Your Heamoglobin is on the lower side, Potassium and Phosphorus look ok. Most Nephrologist’s prefer your blood pressure at 130/80 or lower, this will help protect your remaining kidney function.

I’m in Stage 4 also, my primary doctor also didn’t pick up on it, I just quit being able to urinate on my own, that has been going on for going on 4 years, my kidneys are only working at 24% now, my kidney specialist hasn’t recommended dialysis yet, I’m swelled all over

I am just so tired sad to read about others, like me, who had got to stage 4 kidney disease without knowing it. I also was having regular blood tests because of heart failure. Im a fanatic need to know and understand so if the blood results had been more detailed I could have picked it up but the follow on letters were always written with the minimal information. I was having two weekly blood tests but nothing is happening and even though I phoned District Nurses no communication. The main problems seem to be poor communication and overlooking the patients right to know. If patient, g.p. and hospital consultant worked together maybe it would improve.

I have stage 4 CKD too. My creatinine is 2.60 (GFR 24) and it has gradually increased over the years. My GFR has dipped to as low as 14 and I have been counseled about impending dialysis. I was scared and determined to do something about it. With the help of a lot of research and a renal dietitian, I believe that I am on the road to improvement. I have changed my diet dramatically to an almost vegetarian/vegan eating plan. I cut out coffee, alcohol and dark colas. Most of my protein comes from plant based foods. I just recently stopped doing hard crunches and high intensity interval training stationary bike rides - I am pretty much only walking. I also have chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) which is a great concern but that is under control - at least for the time being. It seems to me that there are a number of things we can do to put less stress on our kidneys and help stave off dialysis. Any additional ideas for changes I can make would be appreciated.
