Renal cortical thinning

Can anyone share any information on renal cortical thinning? I was diagnosed with CKD about 7 years ago. My GFR stayed pretty steady at around 45-50 until this last November when it had dropped to 26. It has stayed just around that number since. It was up to 30 in May but is 27 now. I had the first renal ultrasound in June and was told both kidneys are quite a bit smaller than normal and that I have bilateral renal cortical thinning. Yesterday, my pcp gave me a copy of the results and said he’d just let the nephrologist talk to me about it. I will see her on the 28th but have not been able to find much info so thought I’d get with the folks here to see what I can learn. Thanks!!!

It’s scarring on both your kidneys by means of the membrane around them thinning and they aren’t reabsorbing all of the glucose back into your bloodstream. Instead some of yours is being released back into the urine and expelled. That’s why your gfr is up and down. Too much is being expelled

Thank you so much for your response. Seems to me that the more information a person has, the better their choices and decisions will be! Thanks again.
