Disease or Renal Malfunction?

Does calling it renal malfunction make life any better to deal with? I had my first appointment with my nephrologist today. She said a gfr of 51 and a 1.1 creatinine level is to begin monitoring and is not emergent at this time. When will it be an emergency! No diet change lots of blood work, scans, urine tests in February.

Now is the time to get educated on kidney disease, diet and other preventions that you can put in place to protect your kidneys. I would become very familiar with foods that can cause trouble, medications that affect kidney function, and other lifestyle changes you can make now. You might be able to stave off further decline if you act now.

There is a lot of information out there. To start with, I would recommend you go to our topic list here on this site. See diet and nutrition. Search though the past posts and you will discover a lot of good information.

Here's to your good health.

I agree with Bassetmommer. By changing my diet, drinking more water, and stopping Celebrex, I improved my gfr 20 points. Why wait until they tell you you have to do it. Inform yourself and make the changes you can now!

I had labs today and hope I am as fortunate as you. I stopped meloxicam about six weeks ago. How long were you off Celebrex to notice an increase in GFR?

My next blood work was three months later.
