my father is a 67 year old hemodialysis patient with diabetes and hypertension. We are on our first month of dialysis and im still abit confused what of food and the portions to give him.
is there any way i can talk to a dietician ... - Kidney Disease
is there any way i can talk to a dietician online? can anyone share a website?
I’m not on dialysis yet but an hearing that some of the dialysis clinics in my urban area are offering telemedicine options for patients.
So, two thoughts:
1. Is your father receiving hemodialysis in-center or at home? If it’s in-center could he meet with the dietician while in-center for his dialysis treatment?
2. Can the dietician provide Telehealth appointments? It never hurts to ask.,, I’d definitely ask for the safety of the dietician and myself. I’d make it clear that I’m not looking for cheaper billing; I’m looking for a situation that is safer for everyone involved (or, the dietician and myself).
Let us know how this turns out... and wishing your father and your family nothing but the best.

Sad to say from where im from the dialysis center we are in doesnt have any dietician. ill try to look for one who i can just do virtual consultation or phone call. thanks
By law every dialysis clinic is required to provide a dietitian for every patient/client. This dietitian may be in demand to a point they will travel from clinic to clinic. If your Father has been on dialysis a month, he should have already seen one. If he has yet to meet with a dietitian (usually during a treatment) he can request a visit. He also should have received a binder with all sorts of diet, fluid, kidney failure and dialysis information including all the phone numbers for clinic, social worker, physician and more. Again if he misplaced his or never received one please ask about one. The 2 largest dialysis providers DaVita and Fresenius also have patient portals where a patient can get lab test results, ask questions and basically communicate with all the members of their team including nurse, social worker, dietitian, physician -- all online. It may be you can set up a televisit through telemedicine to get answers to your questions. If you need more info on the patient portal or the dietitian call the clinic they are normally happy to respond and help. If you need more info send me a PM. Blessings
Yes - The Kidney RD (kidneyrd.com) are real renal dietitians that work virtually. They are absolutely amazing and have a strong passion for helping kidney patients better understand nutrition and how it applies directly to them based on their labs.
I have been working with them for a while - very easy, compassionate, and thorough. You will learn not just what to eat, but also how to setup your kitchen, preparing meals, adding variety, and how nutrition impacts the burden placed on the kidneys.
