Hello! I was diagnosed with CKD four years ago. Over the last 6 months my eGFR has decreased from 44 to 24. How concerned should I be?

Hi Vicki,

You should be very concerned. Are you seeing a nephrologist? I would seek answers from your doctor as to the drop. Have you changed medications? Is there a change in your medical profile? Are you taking any new over the counter medications or supplements? That is a very big drop. You went from 44 percent of your kidneys working to less than a quarter. Call today and get another lab in soon to see if this is a trend.

Thanks so much for responding. I have an appointment with my nephrologist on Dec 4. I’ve had 6 labs since May 8th with a steady decline in my eGFR and increase in creatinine (2.06). Thanks again. I’m really concerned.

Also, there have been no changes in meds or anything.

Hang in there. There are many of us who have been there. I did the same thing with a decline and then was able to hold my levels now for almost 2 years without any decline through diet. See your doc and stop back for more support and info.

If it turns out that you will need a transplant. Start early to let your need be known. "The Big Ask...The Big Give" suggests that you use Facebook and any social media.

Tell your story.

Since your diagnosis have you changed your diet, water intake, exercise routine? Has your BP been stable?

No, I haven’t made any changes. My eGFR was stable for about three years but then suddenly started dropping.

How many of you got a second opinion somewhere along your journey?

I see you have an appointment with your nephrologist, let us know how it went. Good luck.
