Can We Take Celebrex Occasionally

Hello, I am stage 3B. My nephrologist told me not to use NSAID's. I am in terrible pain and the only drug that takes it all away when it occurs is Celebrix. Just one pill makes me feel great. Do you think if I just take it occasionally it will damage me. My eGFR was 50 and I went to a new doctor for my diabetes and he gave me these new pills FARXIGA 10 mg. and it went down 15 points in 3 month. I know there is a class action law suit for that drug. Thanks for reading this.

You should only ask that question of two of your physicians. Your nephrologist and the other doctor who prescribed the Celebrex. There isn't anyone in this community who can give you permission to take any medication. By the way, always be sure that all of your physicians should know about all of your health issues and at each visit have a list of all medications, supplements, and over the counter medications, you take.

Having said that I, for many years, took a daily dose of aspirin, 81 mg, upon the advice of my cardiologist at the time. When I found out I had CKD and learned about NSAIDs I had a decision to make. After consulting with my doctors I learned that should my kidneys fail I could live on dialysis but I obviously could not live without a working heart. I made the choice after the consults with my nephrologist and new cardiologist to continue with the aspirin regimen as long as my GFR stayed where it was, a 49 average over the last two years.

After a recent surgery and a consult with my cardiologist, we discussed stopping it permanently. I have been off aspirin since August 13th, and we agreed to continue without it until mid-November and make a final decision.

Good response Mr K. Agree that there are many issues your Doctors have to consider on your medicines when you have CKD. I was taking omeprazole daily for many years, and my gastro Doctor decided best to only take it when needed. This medicine plan is working ok. My eGFR improved. Many factors to consider.

I understand completely. The decision is never an easy one and you have to look at the pros and cons and decide. Sometimes it's a question of a "lesser of two evils." It is so important for folks with CKD or any chronic illness to become proactive. Learn all you can about all of your health issues and build a solid Care Team and when faced with a choice make the decision that is best for you and your family.
