This Facebook group has been already been advertised multiple times here. This is starting to become spam.

Lol. Sorry about that Steve. I don’t check in on this side all that often. And I was excited to hear the news

BE careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Facebook is the VERY LAST place I would ever go for kidney information!

Typically I would agree with you. You really should check it out

I, too, have real concerns about this FB group. My renal team prescribes my treatment plan. Given how complicated this stuff gets, I'm not willing to start experimenting with things that have not been supported by research.

That being said, I have been encouraged to shift to a vegetarian diet by the renal nurse practitioner who works with my nephrologist. Since making this shift I have experienced a modest but consistent and helpful improvement in my renal data.

Pre-vegetarian diet:

Creatinine 4.0

eGFR 11

BUN 73

All other electrolytes in check

Severe anemia under effective treatment

Post-vegetarian diet:

Creatinine 2.9

eGFR 16

BUN 47

All other electrolytes in check

Severe anemia under effective treatment

I've been following the vegetarian diet since the middle of June 2019. I have my next renal panel the first week of October. I don't know if I'll see more improvement; I'm hoping there will be a little more improvement.

I also finally see a renal dietician on Tues, Sept 24th. I'll seek specific information from her about vegetarian diets for persons with Stage IV/V CKD. I want to be sure I'm eating enough high value vegetarian protein . . .

So, there may be some benefit to shifting to a vegetarian diet. Of course, I'd strongly support visiting with your nephrologist before you make this dietary shift. Visiting with a renal dietician would be even better.

Bottom line, I'll hang my hat on research-supported treatments customized specifically to fit my renal data (and other medical conditions). I won't be seeking treatment suggestions from a FB group.

WOW that is so great that a vegetarian diet has made such a difference in your labs. I know others on this site have managed to stabilize their condition.

I have had some issues with FB in the past. Some one can come across as some kind of kidney expert, and they aren't one at all. I am where I am today because I listened to my doctors and did everything they asked! Yes I did question things at times, but always went with their expert advice.

Take care! Here's hoping your Oct labs are better yet, or at least stable.

Glad to see your renal group is catching up to the trends 👍❤️

I will agree. WYOAnne. One should always check with your Doctor before you change your prescribed diet.

Absolutely! I definitely wouldn’t have shifted to a vegetarian diet without the approval of my nephrologist. In my case I was actually strongly encouraged to make this dietary shift.

I’m looking forward to seeing s renal dietician on Tues, Sept 24th!

Just a little head's up regarding this somewhat cultish group....

Be VERY careful about asking questions or you will get banned.

Be VERY careful about asking follow-up questions or you will get banned.

If you politely challenge any aspect of their dogma, you will get banned.

If you say "My nephrologist said...", you will get banned.

If you ask a question to which they don't know the answer, you will get banned.

If you say "from the research I've found...", you will get banned.

If all you do is lurk, you probably will NOT get banned.

There will be no warning before you get banned and there's a high likelihood that you WILL get banned.

Get the picture? ;)

Ya, and this is suppose to be a HELPFUL site!?@#

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Sorry.

It's really shameful that the moderators of that website act the way they do. It's almost as if they have something to hide.

No. it is from personal experience. On the FB site, if you question ANYTHING, they BAN you from the site. Really.....!@#?

No... You do not get banned for asking questions... Lok

I would agree about being banned. There are some great groups out there but in an effort to understand several of my friends and I joined the natural kidney journey group. Within a few days we had all been kicked out of the group for asking questions and/or requesting literature/studies proving advice given.

Exercise all due discretion. Blessings

To each his/her own. I tried it for a while and got tired of the trash being sent to me.

I've just about finished my 2nd childhood, maybe in the next one.

I’m surprised at the negative rhetoric regarding this website. It is a healthy way of eating. It’s unfortunate that y’all have potentially scared off anyone that could benefit from this healthy Style. There are numerous testimonials on how this has helped bring their test results into a more positive range

Healthy eating is important for sure. However one size does not fit all on a renal diet. There is no simple answer. Our blood work results seem to dictate what that diet will be. CKD diet should be approved by a Doctor or dietitian in my opinion.

It's not the diet necessarily but the clickiness/cultishness in the group. If you add a comment or resist to mainstream it's the horrific responses and all the people kicked out and banned from the group for asking hard questions or challenging some of the viewpoints. I did NOT find it a supportive group at all. Based on my personal experience. Blessings

I think there is something off base with the video done by the person claiming to have gotten off dialysis. It is a very complex event to take place and requires improvement in red blood cell production without the renal medication or iron. I speak from experience as a Physician and someone who has reduced dialysis time from 3 hours a day 3 times a week to 1 hour and 50 minutes 3 times a week with a plant based diet. I was not permitted to join the group which is "fishy" in itself. Then I see the same promoter selling USA coins. How very sad all of this seems.

It’s always concerning when people take advantage of those grappling with serious chronic conditions. Thank you for sharing your concerns about this group with us.

On a personal level, I’m always wary of groups like this group. While medicine doesn’t begin to fully understand chronic kidney disease, I have found that effective nephrologists Do adequately manage the many and varied complications that occur in association with CKD.

Unfortunately, there just is no cure for CKD at this point in time.

Wonderful to see your dialysis time reduced!

I have begun plant based myself.

Hoping for similar results.

Dialysis 3 years. All numbers were trending positively until received 3 vaccines at one GP visit. I have Healthcare degree, Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Am I being too personal to ask what induced your ESRD?

Mine resulted from hypertension.

Natural kidney journey gives us hope. Hope that we can avoid dialysis. I welcome that encouragement. Most of their research is backed up with medical information. They explain how and why their method could work for you. They do not claim to cure everyone, but provide hope and encouragement. It has helped to lift my spirits .

I have to say that I too agree with the posts above. I find the group moderator to be very quick to ban people and quite frankly, rude. You can’t question much of anything. They also just ban you without even a warning.

I also find it dangerous that they are giving advice to people with End Stage Renal Disease when they are not a doctor or medical professional. You’ll even hear medical doctors who promote plant based eating state they will not give blanket recommendations to those with ESRD or stage 4 CKD. They require consults because of how fragile patients are and the electrolyte changes that need such close monitoring.

Please note, I think plant based is excellent and that it can significantly improve kidney function. So this has nothing to do with the diet. It has to do with the group and those that run it.

Can't believe people still promote the group Natural Kidney Journey. The rudest group of people on FB run that group. Sighs. Where to start? The latest? The owners well broke which would cost $20k to fix. They took up a Go Fund Me campaign having a private friend of theirs pretend that it was his idea to do it for them. Many in that group are not working but felt obligated to donate. Worse, they had posts naming the people that did contribute which shamed those unable. Two people commented it was wrong to do so. The first banned and the second shamed into apologizing in order to save themselves from a ban. The owners husband had an AKI a few years ago when he was stricken with Cancer. His cancer reoccured one and a half years ago but they have not posted his true results since. Many people with AKI's come off of Dialysis. He is not special in that regard. Most people in that group that have had their numbers improve did not take into account that they were both. hydrating better for the first time, nor that they were now no longer eating processed foods. Be forewarned before you decide to join. I say this as someone that was 100%WFPBNO but who has since decided to add in a tiny bit of poultry to my diet and am now 97% WFPBNO.
