Hi,

I use labtestsonline.org for all things related to blood and urine labs. It should help you in understanding all of your lab work. Or, you can simple use the Google machine to look up an answer.

Thanks for responding ! i looked up online but can't get anything! my mom's nephrologist suggested pcr test but not acr so i was confused if they are corelated or not!! thankfully pcr test was normal but i was wondering why didnot doc asked for acr test as i google up mostly ACR is mentioned a lot.

This is what I found on LTO. It's easy to understand if you know the difference between blood and urine testing. They look for similar things, one in blood draws and the other in urine samples. While not definitive, it provides the doctor with more detailed information to investigate the causes and come to a conclusion.

Albumin is a major protein normally present in blood, but virtually no albumin is present in the urine when the kidneys are functioning properly. However, albumin may be detected in the urine even in the early stages of kidney disease. The urine albumin test (formerly called microalbumin) detects and measures the amount of albumin in the urine to screen for kidney disease.

A single urine sample collected at any time (random) or 24-hour urine sample; occasionally, a split 24-hour sample, with the night collection (11 pm to 7 am) separated from the day collection (7am to 11pm). Often, a blood sample may also be taken to measure your creatinine and serum protein levels, especially when 24-hour urine has been ordered.

Which one test is more reliable for kidney disease?

They are both reliable. Each will confirm or not what the other has found. One checks the blood and the other a larger urine sample.
