I have stage 4 kidney failure, I am 30 years old.

5 yrs ago my gfr was 50, 3 years ago my gfr was 39 but has decreased to 28 now.

My kidney failure is the result of my hyperactive immune system.. Lupus nephritis is the name of the kidney disease.

Is this decline in gfr normal?

I don't know the reason of the decline. I have nephrologist who says my kidney failure is stable. I am concerned that the decline is happening so fast. Has this happened to anyone else?

In the initial stages, I was on autoimmune suppressive drugs but from 3 years, my nephrologist has only prescribed me blood pressure medications and diuretics.

He never asked me to change my diet habits. On most days, I consumee white meat in the form of chicken. Egg is my other favourite diet.

Am I doing right?

My nephrologist seem not much concerned.

Follow "renal diet chart" strictly. If you follow the diet attentively then you will be able to slow down your kidney function decline. You need to focus more on a vegetarian diet as it puts less pressure on the kidneys. Try to avoid excessive salt and red meat consumption. Limit fish & chicken intake to twice or thrice weekly. Egg can be consumed on a daily basis as it's good for your overall health, but in moderation (maybe max 3 eggs a day).

Yes, you should be concerned. If you can, please go see a renal dietician to get a diet plan tailored for you.

You said you consume chicken and eggs. I too ate a lot of chicken in the past. Now I try to consume much less animal protein to protect what kidney function I have, which is GFR 23.

So I eat much less chicken, like maybe once a week, if that. This was advice from my renal dietician. I also enjoy eggs. So when I have eggs, which is very often, I have one egg just egg white (protein 3.6g) , and one with an yoke (protein 6g). You need some protein in your diet and it is almost impossible to eliminate it completely. There are a lot of foods that are high in protein that you would not think so, such as white fish. Learn to Google foods to see their content. It is eye opening.

BTW, there are others here on this site who have Lupus nephritis. You might want to put Lupus nephritis in the search box on the upper right hand corner and see what others are asking about this.

Best,

What is your liquid intake?

Hi I'm new on here. I was diagnosed with IGA 2 1/2 years ago.

I'm 45. In Oct 2018, my creatinine was up to 3.26. GFR 15. In July it was 2.6 so I was scared. My dr told me to lay-off meats. He said egg 1 a day. I hardly eat eggs only when I'm in a mood once in a while. He said try to take more protein from veggies instead of meat. I was trying but not good enough so I stop eating meat all together.

He wanted me to see how my levels are in 30 days. If it doesn't improve he said it's time for transplant evaluation appointment. So I stuck with a non meat diet. I used to be a vegetarian so it wasn't too bad .

I took another blood test and it weren't back to 2.6 GFR 20.

Made me realize what I eat makes a big difference.

I tested again end of Dec it was 2.8 and GFR 18. It fluctuates up and down. I'm planning to talk to my dr about getting a refferal for the transplant team. I read when it's below 20 it's time. He told me with a strict diet my creatinine could be 2.1. I remember when I was in the hospital, it went down to 1.8 because of the fluids and diet I was on. So now I'm extra careful what I put in my body. Some days I'm ok but some times I get sad or angry. But I gotta do what I gotta do to keep up with my health.
