Kidney Donation Website

A friend sent me the following link about a guy who advertised for a kidney donor on Craigslist and was successful:

amp.ktvu.com/news/craigslis...

I visited the website mentioned in the story ("findakidneydonor.com") and received a warning that the page is not secure.

Anybody else seen or heard of this? Is this a fake story? Any comments?

My friend is pushing me to be more proactive about finding a live donor. I feel conflicted about transplant and I am not sure why.

I'm not familiar with this site or story, but the best way to find a living donor is through your social circle. Most donors are known to the recipient either directly or through a friend of a friend (etc). You can find tips for finding a living donor here: kidney.org/atoz/atozTopic_T...

kidney.org/transplantation/...

Thank you Kelli. I have a sister who said she would donate, but now she will not even get evaluated. Ironic since she worked for a hospital at one time and part of her job description was to talk family members of deceased patients to donate their loved ones's organs. And, she is an "organ donor" on her license! It is difficult to deal with the hurt feelings and resentment.

Please do not give up hope. Kidney donation is a very personal and difficult decision. Give your sister some time and she might surprise you. Maybe she has a health condition which prevents her from becoming a donor and she is not comfortable sharing that information just yet. I was listed in September and my husband (who ended up becoming my donor) did not even start the testing process until January/February of the following year. I could not and did not say anything as it was solely his decision. Be patient with your sister. Talk to everyone you know about your health condition. I let all of our friends and family know through a Christmas letter (I know it sounds cheesy) but a cousin went through the process for me who I had not spoken to in 10 years. You might be pleasantly surprised! The best of luck to you.
