I have just been made aware that I have Stage 3 CKD. I got the results of my blood test which showed a decrease in my kidney function from 51 to 34. MY PCP never mentioned this to me. I had to request a referral to a nephrologist. I am amazed that I have never been told of the significance of my CKD before now. I am learning about CKD as fast as I can and I have started a plant based diet. I am scheduled to see a Nephrologist at the end of this month. I am still in a state of shock and I am trying to reduce my anxiety level. I really appreciate this site and the support it provides. Thank you all for your comments and thoughtful sharing of experiences. Will continue to post.

Just Made Aware
Hi! Sounds like you’re taking the initiative and putting together a good plan, which is great. I’ve learned most doctors just go thru the same old protocol and never thinknoutside the box or give you ideas to feel better. Be sure and drink lots of water and get good exercise(walking, swimming) prayers for you. God can do anything😀
Unfortunately, most doctors quite often do not mention the significance of a lower GFR until stage 3 or 4. Rest assure, you are doing the right things. The best thing to do is to keep the GFR stable and not let it get lower. You can remain for years without dialysis if you can do that.
I am always interested in sharing ideas for a plant base diet. Best of luck to you and check in often.
Thanks so much for your support. I am trying to get over being disappointed in my Primary Care and Cardiologist never discussed the significance of my GFR. I am scheduled to see a Kidney Specialist and I'll have a lot of questions for him. The plant based diet has given me more energy and I feel less tired. I hope with diet, exercise and medication I can avoid dialysis for a long time. Thanks again for your kind thoughts.
My PCP never mentioned to me either, my level was 45 and in one year has gone up to 53, which I am told is almost back to normal, don’t panic, I got three opinions and was told no need to make any changes but I DID stop my BP meds , no red meat or soda, I eat tons of blueberries and no salt or sugar, try to watch your stress, I know it’s hard but I cut myself off from anyone causing me stress and I have done real well.
Hello Jenkea, I have just been reading your post and congratulate you on getting your egfr level to go up, but I am surprised that you STOPPED your Blood Pressure medication! Did you mean to say that you changed them - I do hope so, as I have always understood it is most unwise to do this unless on medical advice - it could do more harm than good. Otherwise I agree with your advice to Smokey2Gabby. Hope you can sort out a suitable BP tablet with your doctor - Curleytop1.
Thanks for your encouragement. I am working on reducing stress. It is not as easy as one would think but I am becoming more aware of anyone who increases my stress level and I am trying to stay away from them. I'm a natural caregiver but I am learning how to put my needs before the needs of others. You are a great role model on the importance of reducing stress and its impact on getting better. Thanks again.
