Frightened: Can someome Please Help me. I... - Kidney Disease
Frightened
At this point, I think the person you need to help you is your physician. Either your PCP or if you already have a nephrologist contact them for an appointment. Your symptoms can be attributed to several issues and may or may not be related to any current medical issue you have. Nobody in this community will be able to diagnose you based on the information you provided. That's the job of a physician. Get a proper diagnosis from a physician and then share that with the folks here and you will find supportive and helpful folks. Schedule an appointment at the earliest available time and come back here to share.
I go to a nephrologist i have stage 4 kidney function. But i never had these symptoms before. I go to the nephro again Aug 28th. I was just wondering if my GFR which was 28 decreased with those symptoms. Thank you. Patrick
Anything is possible as well as it possibly being unrelated to CKD. You provided more information this post than the original so ask your nephrologist if it is related to CKD or could be something else. The physician may order an ultrasound or a scan (without contrast) and then be able to give you a proper diagnosis. Waiting as long as 3 and a half weeks can be problematic depending on how severe the pain is. Can you contact the doctor and see about an "emergency" appointment? They can try to squeeze you in or contact you if there is a cancellation. It's worth a shot.
Thank you so much mr kidney just talking to someone on here helps me so. I was sitting here feeling frieghtened seeing these symptoms you see where i live my nephrologist only comes to this office once a month. The other time hes 18 miles away in his big office and i had a stroke so i dont drive and cant get a ride there. Thank you so much Mr kidney. I thank God for this site they gave me from. NKF
I understand if the pain is that bad and you can't drive but is there some form of public transportation for you to access? Also, have you tried a hot bath for your legs? No added oils or such, just the hot water and a chance to relax and let the pain ease up.
You mentioned that you are in Stage 4. Has your nephrologist told you the results of any exams and/or tests that indicate what may have initially caused your CKD?
Since you are in the United States have you ever attended the free 90-minute Kidney Smart class in your area? You can find one by going to davita.com and checking on one near you. The reason I bring it up is that you can obtain a lot of information on Stage 4 and CKD in general and also get a lot of information (resources) that can help you deal with CKD and ESRD. Sometimes the fear of the unknown is actually worse than it really is and doing some investigation into things like dialysis modalities can actually make the future look better than it is when you are informed about possible outcomes and solutions to issues you are facing.
I know that a year and a week ago when I joined this community I had a lot of questions and concerns and it seemed like there was so much information out there I thought I'd never learn enough to understand my CKD and future. By spending a lot of time researching and coming to this community I was able to overcome a lot of questions and fears. I'm doing all I can to stay off dialysis but if the day ever comes when I have to seriously look at it, I've done enough research and have a good idea about which direction I will go. I've even spoken to my nephrologist and should the time come and my GFR drops me into Stage 4 he and I will sit down and he'll listen to my reasons for the decisions I've made and offer suggestions or provide alternative ideas for me to consider. The main thing is to be proactive and make the hard decisions when you have plenty of time and aren't rushed into having to make one. I realize that's a lot but it makes dealing with a chronic illness much easier to handle when you have the path well lit and there is no unknown. Relax and enjoy the hot bath(s).
Thank you so much. Mr kidney i just felt like crying. You put my feet back on the ground. This is all new to me. You see i had extreeme high pertention all my Adult life inhereted from my mother who died of a stroke at 45 years old 50 years ago. Plus i was born 2 1/2 months premature in the 1950s and i have 1 reg kidney and 1 very small one. And 4 years ago. They told me i have Diabetes. I went to the hospital and my blood sugar level was 512. And God knows how long that was. No Diabetes in my family so my nephrolologist told me i had the one two punch to my kidneys in 60 years. HTN and Diabetes.
So thank you for the info Mr kidney this meant the world to me
Please listen to Mr. Kidney!
Patrick,
I understand your worry. Being frightened is natural. Do as Mr. Kidney stated. Get some labs done, and figure out what is going on. The things you described can be attributed to many things. It may be just a temporary as dehydration, but you need to find out if there is something more serious going on. Kidney disease is best handled when discovered early on. Let us know what you discovered and remember this resource for support.
Best of luck.
