Hypertension is a major cause of CKD and there has recently been new information on that issue released. I have a copy of it posted here for those who are interested.

EXCELLENT article, Mr._K!

Clear, concise and easy to understand.

Hypertension can lead to so many illnesses that may have been prevented if caught early and is regularly monitored.

Thanks for presenting this to the community!

Thanks Mr_K You got me thinking with your article on Biotin and I started doing more research on my supplements. I was recommended to take Melatonin for helping me sleep and also because kidney patients are often low in it. I found this article that said taking it may also be helpful for lowering blood pressure which I found interesting. ahcmedia.com/articles/10657...

However, there was also some indication that certain blood pressure meds may not pair well with melatonin. Melatonin may reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications like methoxamine and clonidine. In this article umm.edu/health/medical/altm...

Of course, no indication from my neph about either of these things. I was told it was ok with the dosage and type of bp I am taking , but no indication of how long I can stay on it. Studies have not shown safety for taking over an extended period of time.

As you always say, we have to do our own homework, run it past our doctors, then decide if we want to take on the potential risk. It is our body, our lives.

Do you monitor your own blood pressure at home or just at doctor visits? I ask not to pry but to suggest that if you do home monitoring you could stay on top of any change in blood pressure before or after using melatonin.

Yes, I monitor at home. I have been on a very low dose 1.25 mg lisinopril since July as well as melatonin since then. My bp is well controlled since finding out the correct dose of lisinopril. It has also stabilized my proteinuria. I was on melatonin for about a year prior. It doesn't seem to have affected me, but thought I'd share the article for other's sake.

What I am experimenting with is the amount of melatonin, as I recently increased the dosage for several reasons, and now I seem to be waking more. I am going to try and pull back the dosage, which needs to be done gradually. I found several articles that discussed small doses of .3 mg ( which is hard to find on store shelves) can be as effective as larger doses. Some say larger doses over an extended period can hurt natural production of melatonin. I don't believe enough studies have been done to justify that statement, but I'd rather be on the least amount of anything.
