Hi all.

I have to get a handle on my weight. It’s affecting my life, my health, in face it impacts on everything I do. I’ve got so much weight to lose that I get disheartened. I need to shed at least 10st, probably 12 realistically. It’s going to be a long road.

Well 2020, you have taken a very good "first step" by coming on here so well done 🤗! You will have been sent a Welcome post on registration which gives you lots of advice and links to useful information on how to get the most out of this site.

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!

We recommend joining a Weekly Weigh In page on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary page , where members log their meal plans and get useful feedback. A key feature of the Forum is the support between members which you will experience as you join in.

Please also read this information about security/privacy, especially as your post is unlocked

You will see you have been awarded a date badge to mark your joining us. Different badges(e.g. to note weight loss stages and other events) are added to active members who participate on the Weigh In days. You will see these as you explore the site.

In short our advice is,to make the most of the forum, please join in with activities, read and reply to posts, ask questions and encourage others – it will benefit you and support your progress, all best and very Happy New Year to you ! 😊

Hi 2020 welcome to this amazing community.

I suggest you read the Newbie pack carefully and follow every link so that you know your way round.

I found joining in to be the best approach. I started with the Daily Diary where members compare menus ideas etc.

The weekly weigh in is a good idea too. I'm a member of the Tuesday Trimmers.

Good luck🍀

Welcome 2020 to this brilliant forum

One thing I have found really helpful is to break my goals down in to small manageable targets. So when I started out in April I didn’t focus on the 5stone I wanted to lose but just on the first 7lb, then 1 stone before I went on holiday, then out of obesity and so on. This has helped me to keep focussed and not overwhelmed.

Good luck. Keep coming here and you could be in a very different place this time next year 😊

It sounds huge when you look at it like that hey, I want to lose 35kg so 6 stone but I'm breaking it down into smaller goals, also being overweight my back hurts when trying to walk any distance so trying swimming (I run to the pool edge wrapped in my towel) and using an exercise bike, not sure if you're the same, I'm a newbie too so just making suggestions.... It's all so daunting but you should be proud that you're making the first step, let get healthy in 2020, I'm trying not to think of it as a diet

Hi, Bluebells- , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:healthunlocked.com/fasting-...

Chin up sweetie. Its not easy losing weight. Hopefully being on here will help. I lack motivation. I know what I've got to do, I just don't want to start. X

Thanks everyone for your comments. I’ve managed day 1. Not entirely sure which plan I’m doing yet so today I’ve just calorie counted. It’s been ok,I need to shop tomorrow to get organised.

Good start 🙂

No rush, keep reading and chatting. I recommend the Daily Diary: there’s a lot of chat on there about different plans and food choices.

Also, once you join a weigh-in team, you’ll really feel the benefit of team support
