For Avocado Lovers

I'm probably rather late to have discovered these in my local supermarket. I usually buy fresh whole ones. However, the last two I bought went from hard to brown in the blink of an eye, so I was delighted to discover these in the frozen food section. No doubt some of you have tried them, what's the verdict?

I wish I was an avocado lover, Ellie, but hard as I try, they never taste any better! :)

I thought i hated them too, based on a vile pot of Tossco guac, but since getting to grips with them in my kitchen, I am now convinced

I made a WW choc pudding, an avocado chocolate loaf cake from a sports cooking site, and Avocado choc “ice cream” the choc element being unsweetened cocoa powder in all cases

Since puds were a hit I moved on to braving a homemade chunky guacamole I found on the bbc good food site. This uses bang fresh ingredients! I had these in my garden - aside from the avocado - so I made it. It is so lush 😋. I now have it on toast as well, bunged back under the grill 😋😋.

In all fairness, I think that frozen avocados are an incredibly recent addition to the frozen section in supermarkets. Had I not seen an Iceland advert in January, I’d be none-the-wiser, as I rarely buy anything from freezer cabinets in supermarkets. However, I have since discovered frozen edamame beans (a favourite of mine) in Asda.

Well that's another one I'll look out for, thankyou. 😊

Perhaps you can enlighten me MrNiceGuy, what is the difference between soya beans and endame beans? I’ve been buying frozen soya beans for years, and now notice these, they look and taste exactly the same!!! Google tells me endame are the whole beans in the pods, but not the ones in the freezer department 😊

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a difference between the two. I guess soya beans have just been 're-branded' to make them sound trendy.

Soy beans are just the bean. Edamame are in their shells. The ones in Tesco are in shells.

in reply to IndigoBlue61

I always thought the difference was processing. Edamame being the barely ripe raw uncooked soya beans.. whereas soya bean can refer to the bean in any state of being?? but now I read these msgs I think I've been duped! ha!

I haven't seen these before, we don't shop at Tesco. Just had a fresh avocado with my chilli con carne for lunch though. Yummy

I think these are for the smoothie market, but I'm intrigued too. Let us know how it goes! Looks like you'll be having loads of lovely guacamole for a while to come :)

I've not seen them either, be interesting to know what they are like. Like RuthCR said, for smoothies probably as id say they would be watery when thawed...

I like avocado on toast with a poached egg on top lol....

Hi elliebath . These are great. I use them regularly. I was initially sceptical when I bought them. I was worried they'd go mushy or brown once defrosted but nope...they keep their colour and texture and are great either sliced up on salad or smashed into guacamole. I like the fact I can defrost a portion (half an avocado) with no waste. I love them 😊

Ah thank you Scotslass13 that is good to hear.

I now Just have to remember to think ahead and defrost them in time😉

in reply to elliebath

when you do try them please will you come back and tell us your own verdict!! I've considered buying them but presumed the texture would suffer for the freezing process. assumed they'd be good only for grilling, smoothies, etc and my main use of avocado is in salad!

Ok will probably try them later this week and report back😊

That’s realLY good to know, I’m with Ellie, they go from hard to overripe and seem to skip the ripe bit!!!

They are fab, not just for the smoothie market. Very versatile. I got fed up of just using half then wasting the other and kept getting stringy fresh ones.

I found them they are good you have to eat them as soon as they are defrosted or they go a bit mushy

I am with avoid-sugar. I get through a lot of avocados in a week but found the frozen ones vile. No taste and slimey texture. Didn’t even like them in smoothies.

Thanks for the heads up - hoping my supermarket has some!
