Good morning jules6669 and welcome to the forum. Somebody from Admin will come along very soon, probably before I finish, to invite you to join the November Newbie group. We are a very supportive forum and very non judgemental. My advice is to change the way you shop, buy plenty of vegetables and fruit, berries are best if you can afford them. I don't want to assume that you eat lots of convenience or processed food, but if you do, start cooking from scratch, buy cheaper cuts of meat and cook long and slow, in a slow cooker if you have one, add lots of vegetables or chickpeas or any type of bean to fill meals out. Have protein which is more filling. Don't buy enough crisps, cakes, biscuits, fizzy drink, sweets, chocolate to have it every day. Maybe to start with just cut down on the amount of these things that you eat. Try and cut back on carbs, such as bread, pasta and rice or at least use brown. I think if you change the way you eat you will find that your income will still stretch to a better diet. Read all the information Admin give you and read lots of posts, the daily diary is a great place to look for inspiration. Set your self small goals as the big picture can be a bit overwhelming. I am hosting the Feel Good Friday Weigh in today, would you like to be brave enough to come and join in with us, you will get lots of support I can guarantee.

Wishing you good luck on your journey - take it a day at a time and if you have a bad day, don't give up come and tell us and ask for support :)

Welcome to this awesome forum jules6669 . Take you time to download the 12week NHS program and keep reading posts from members herein for tips and encouragement.

Sorry for the various ailments that you are currently facing, wishing you a quick recovery and indeed adopting a healthy lifestyle will surely ease some of the health challenges you face. To start off this journey start be having the right mindset - mind over matter. Decide and commit that your stomach will no longer be your king but your MIND.

You indicate that you are on a low income and this should not limit you in any way or become an excuse to attaining the goals you desire for your life. Start by planning your meals in advance and prepping them to ensure you always got something to eat to break the binge eating habit. Get yourself affordable healthy, nourishing and satiating foods that will keep you full longer. For example a meal of boiled eggs, beans and vegetables is healthy, nourishing and indeed satiating. Plan with what you can easily access and afford without straining. Opt to buy beans and lentils in bulk, soak and cook during your free time, portion and freeze, and you are good to start off.

Keep off junk, sugar and processed foods as much as possible because this enhance cravings and binge eating. Introduce some form of physical activity into your daily routine, like short walks to uplift your moods and indeed motivate you to do more.

Start one day at a time, one meal at a time and soon you will have built a routine you can sustain for the long haul. Once you have managed to deal with your plate, compute your daily calorie range and plan your meals around it. Don't go too low on calories, otherwise the weight sticks and doesn't change. Start at your highest and work to bring it down as you adjust so that it does not become an overwhelming and tiring process for you.

The group administrators will also share with you some valuable information to get you started.

All the very best in your journey!

Lots of great advice from Lucigret and matets plus you'll get even more from an administrator.

Don't worry that you won't remember it all in one go but pick on one or two of the things that they mention and try and do those right. This isn't a race but a gradual change of mind and body.

Ask all the questions you want (there's no such thing as a silly question) and feel free to post your thoughts and feelings. Basically, stay in touch with this forum and you are more likely to succeed.

Good luck!

NB. Meant to reply directly to Jules... Doh!

Hi and welcome, jules :)

You've had two fantastic replies from lucigret and matets and all that I can add, is that junk food has an effect on the body, that stops you from feeling full and makes you crave more, therefore, the more you eat, the more you'll want and vice versa.

There are many recipes online, for meals on a budget, to get you started and our Daily Diary is a great place to get excellent advice and ideas.

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header, so please take the time to read it carefully.

Wishing you all the best :)

well said lucigret! I agree most definitely. and fear not jules6669, we are very much not judgemental; I know as this is my 4th? time here and no one has ever nor will ever tell me I need to buck up and follow the program. I completely understand about being low income. it is much easier to buy comfort food than to cook for yourself. but once you do start cooking for yourself, you will find you rather enjoy it and will feel much much better for the effort. I promise. and if you follow lucigret's advice, you will find that the weight will come off. do not feel bad or discouraged if it does not come off really fast as if it comes off slow it stays off longer. you can do this!! Chin up! we are here for you no matter what!

Well done for joining us Jules, come on regularly and you won't regret it.

May I suggest you look up A Girl Called Jack on the internet she has an amazing blog about feeding herself and her young son on almost no money. I have used many of her recipes and they are excellent.

Take care and enjoy your journey.

I am very low income too. I eat alot of chicken, teriyaki and orange. I eat lean beef patties and cheap steak cuts. You can do this. Alot of tuna is good and cheap too.
