Aka deliberate weight gain - a term my Wife equated to my struggle.

I doubt she thought it up, not her style of speech so must've heard it somewhere.

I'm 50 & have struggled my ENTIRE LIFE with weight and am now on my 3rd attempt at Slimming World.

Week 4 & mixed results.

1. -6lbs, 2. +2.5, 3, -6, 4, +3.5 !!!

Yes I have mental health issues but I think I genuinely get 'Hangry' as the occasional cheat REALLY cheers me up.

I am having cardio investigations so naturally need to sort something sooner rather than later.

I will get there eventually.

Robino have you tried eating healthy as opposed to following diet plans? I've found that works better for me. I think the word diet automatically makes you feel as though you are being deprived. I would love to be thin but my main aim this time is to be healthier and fitter and I think it is this mind set that has made losing weight easier this time. We are all different though and you will find lots of tips from people on here. Good luck.

Hi robino

Have you talked to your GP about your struggle? It might be worth getting a professional opinion. Good luck

Hello Robino and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

You are sounding a little overwhelmed by things and I can understand that. Try taking things one step at a time. Read the suggestions below and then come and ask any questions you have 😊

SW is successful for many people but I needed to learn portion control so it wouldn't suit me.

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

I used to do sw and also ww and never seemed to get anywhere with them. I found them a waste of time. Then I found this last year and decided to join as my husband pushed me with finding something to help me lose weight or he would leave me and I am so glad I found this, this is because we want ivf and if I didn't lose weight we would not be allowed to have it. It is the only place that has given me the correct information to lose weight and I am so glad with both my husband for the push I needed to find something so desperately and also this site for giving me this information.

I found out with my information that the reason I had never lost weight on any diets before was because I was never actually eating enough calories. I never used to eat breakfast as I couldn't eat early, and I hardly ate for lunch. I only used to eat a sandwich during the day and my dinner because I had always wanted to lose weight. I could never understand why I only seemed to get fatter and more flabby. Check out how many calories you should be having on the NHS bmi calculator and this will give you two amounts you should eat between to be able to lose weight. If I was you I would pick the higher amount to go by because I made the mistake of picking the lower amount but as you get used to the amounts you should eat it drops again, so do keep checking how many you should have. It is a higher target than you would think. If you don't eat enough your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating enough calories would so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes means you put weight on instead. Please don't make this same mistake as I have now lost 2st and am nowhere near as fatty as I used to be as I have become firmer in places. Also by calorie counting which is easier than many think you don't have to pay anyone like you do with sw etc and they don't tell you information about eating enough food etc. Good luck with your journey.

Oh my thank you for that. My Wife, who's thin, has lots of friends who've lost on SW - ergo I should. There is NO compromise with her and she gives me a terrible time over it & says, in no uncertain terms, that I am a huge turn off. I am depressed understandably because of it.

Don't let this all get to you Robino there are many people here no matter which way you choose to go to lose weight that will still support you and give you advice with all aspects of it. Even if you do this through sw, ww or calorie counting we are still going to be here for you at any time. At the end of the day my husband would never have given me the push if it wasn't for ivf but he says it is not the person on the outside that counts it is the person on the inside. Any problems you come across don't be afraid to ask us for help. We will all be boosting you on so hope you do well.
