Are these snacks okay?

First of all, I didn't eat with the children today and I resisted chocolate birthday cake in the staff room!! :D

I slowly ate a special K breakfast bar instead of the children's food and I just ate a bread roll as I was hungry and I'm on my way to trampoline class and won't be having tea until I get home around 9..

This has to be better than mindlessly eating with the children or eating a bag of cookies on the way to my class right?

Rome wasn't built in a day LillyPop22 so lots of small changes will add up 😀 I would be very careful of cereal bars which are sold as 'healthy' but are very similar in nutrients and calories to any other chocolate snack bar 😕

I prefer to eat the bulk of my calories in proper meals then I don't need to snack. I know it must be tough with little ones but toast or sugar free cereal is a good choice for breakfast in a hurry, as is fruit and yogurt, or eggs if you have time. Take a look at the Daily Diary for more meal ideas, plenty that the whole family can eat together 😀

It was less that 100 calories though..

So is a kit Kat 😕 It can seem difficult to juggle calories and food quality at first but you will soon get into the swing of things.

Have a look at this for an idea of portions of the different nutrient groups

Hi, they are better than mindlessly eating something but they are both carb heavy and lacking any vitamins. Maybe fruit or unsalted nuts might be better. I sometimes have a boiled egg or a small tin of tuna.

Its keeping it fresh though.. I could buy a banana instead for before my class

Lillypop bananas are great and so transportable. I find 2weetabix a quick and filling breakfast 138 cals

I keep a bowl of boiled eggs in the fridge so I can grab one quickly when I am feeling a bit peckish...lol

Well done for resisting the chocolate cake! My tip would be don't leave eating until after 9m, especially after an exercise class, or you will be starving and that makes it much harder to eat sensibly. I would have my three main meals at normal times, so I didn't feel hungry after my class. It might be a good idea to save some calories for afterwards, but as Ella and Anna said, it could be fruit or nuts. The danger with cereal bars is they are full of sugar, and I find if I have sugar, it just makes me crave more.

Hang on in there anyway, LillyPop. Early days yet. 😊

I can't have my tea any earlier though as my class is 7-8 and I come straight from work.. Then I get a shower and my bus home isn't until 8:40..

Maybe take a packed tea to eat on the way? Hard boiled egg, lean meat, fruit, even a wholemeal sandwich if you are careful with the filling 😊

Trampoline class sounds fun! We've just got a garden trampoline, reckon its going to be good exercise (if I can ignore my imagination having all the neighbours laughing at me behind their curtains!!!)

I'm not sure if you go straight from work to class, or if you give your kids tea first, but why not eat with the kids? I always do. I usually just give myself extra veg and less of whatever carbs they are having (new pots, pasta, whatever). If we are having something like bangers and mash, I just have different (lo cal) bangers. Seems to work out OK, and probably healthier for all of us in the long run! Is that an option?

Awww thanks. I am stupidly proud of it. The badges are really good motivation aren't they - I'm sure it wont be long before you can trade in your newbie badge!

Is thes school kids' food reasonably healthy? Maybe eating with them wouldn't be such a bad idea, if there are healthy choices available.

It's usually sandwiches but I'm trying to avoid it altogether as it is what got me into this mess in the first place.. I was eating about 8 sandwich quarters and cake/yougurt/flapjack and then going home and having a big tea and often more dessert!! D:

When they have hot food I do tend to eat with them but they eat at 4 so I may still get hungry later..

Well I'm sure you will get it right eventually! 👍 (and I presume you don't do trampoline every day!) You're in the right place on this forum to get plenty of support and advice, so onward and downward. 😊
