Hi guys :) I'm new here and I've been online looking for inspiration and came across this site. My weight problem started from my mid twenties, I went through most of my thirties apart from when I got married (shake diet) and put it all back on. I've done mostly every diet you can think of. Like another post I read earlier I will be fortie next year and I'm determined not to go through another decade feeling miserable. I do a lot of swimming like 5 days a week some times twice a day. I swim hundred lengths each time in an hour which is usually up to 700 calories or more sometimes, but obviously I'm doing something wrong.....eating!!!! Any advise is so welcome right now, wish me luck.

One of the administration team will be along to give you the newbie info and possibly a badge soon. I can recommend the 12 week nhs plan. I'm on week 11 and although I didn't have masses to lose, I'm almost there. Slow and steady wins the race! Check your BMI on nhs website. It'll give you a calorie intake to aim for. There are a few good apps for inputting exercise and calories. The favourite seems to be my fitness pal.

Good luck on your journey and welcome!

Hi, thank you for reply. I will definitely check that app out. I've tried checking the BMI calculator but it is not working:( I'll try again on another site? Well done on you weight loss, I'm going to try the 12 week plan :)

That's a shame. I don't know if the other BMI calculators include a calorie range...

Hi Lilly11, welcome to the site, you'll be pleased you found it - I am!

It sounds as though you've got the exercise part of weight loss well organised. Wow, that's a lot of swimming, good for you!

Our relationship with food is usually the hardest part of trying to lose weight. I found that when I started to count calories that I was shocked as to the really calorie-loaded stuff I'd been eating!

There is a calorie counter on this site to make life easier for you, but I use the one on a site called myfitnesspal.com which is more comprehensive, so by using both this site and the myfitnesspal site I have lost 1 stone 8lb.

You will get lots of encouragement and advise from the people on this site. Good luck!

Hello Lilly11 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum. Well done on tackling this issue, the first step is often the most difficult. 😊

Her are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hi😃 Battle the bulge ( love the username) what amazing results you have had with your weight loss😃. I've always been a swimmer but my problem is the eating and like you said the calories!!! I have a very high sugar diet and I'm not organised at all when it comes to meals. I'm going to look up that app now and get it on my phone. Thank you
