A new potato on her journey to being fries

Hello all

I am 27 and I basically want/need to loose about 10 stone. I was so slim and skinny when I was younger, but as I grew to be an adult my obsession with food became apparent. I have joined slimming world and failed within the first two weeks more times than I want to even think about. I probably would have tried weight watchers too if there was a group closer to home and done the same thing.

I have come to realise that loosing weight for me is definitely more of a mental battle more than anything. I hate how I treat food as a 'treat', and eat at every emotion going, including breathing.

All I want to be able to do is tie my shoes without my belly getting in the way, I don't think that's too much to ask for is it?

Hi jayleanne1990

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Welcome jayleanne1990 . We never appreciate our skinny selves when we have them do we! I didnt either. Ah well! This forum is fantastic and I have found it way way better than going to a weekly club. It feels like lots of wonderful support to make a change for life, not just lose weight only to gain it again. So many inspirational people.

Best of luck on your journey

Hey! I just want to say you can absolutely do this! It's all about changing the way you think - I really love this quote thats about giving yourself treats. 'you aren't a dog, you don't need to reward yourself with food' and its so true but something I struggle with myself. Just try to make healthy swaps - so instead of having a big chocolate treat think about things that might be less calorific but will still satisfy those sweet cravings! xxxxxx

HI Jay

I too have about 10 stone to lose as well and I know how it can seem like an incredibly huge mountain to climb but you need to approach this like you would approach building a house.

One brick at a time.

An average house brick weighs about 5 lbs so you have 28 bricks to lose. Focus on each brick not the entire house :)

Exercise is up to you and most people will tell you to start moving straight away. Any kind of movement even a 10 minute walk each day is worthwhile.

Personally I am not starting exercise until I lose another couple stone BUT that's my path not yours. You have to do what feels right for you.

Give yourself realistic goals e.g. lose 1 brick by the end of April. With 10 stone to lose thats definitely achievable as we lose faster when we are heavier.

Download the Myfitnesspal app and start using it. Its easy, awesome and free!

The admins here have given you a great intro so please make sure you read everything you can and post as often as you want:)

you can do this. I know it!

Hello Jay. I know just what you mean about tying your shoes. It made me breathless bending down to tie mine but now I've lost about 20 lbs I can do it! Stick with it and you'll be having a quiet little celebration every time you put your shoes on! Good luck x
