Hi Hazel,

Yes definitely! There are tons of success stories on this site and it is a truly wonderful community.

We all help each other.

The NHS plan allows you to count calories so in theory you can eat what you like, providing you stay within your daily allowance. Work it out on the NHS calculator.

Take all your measurements, download a weightloss app and sign up for the weekly emails.

Good luck. We're all here for you 🍀

any weigh loss app that you recommend for checking calories?

I am aiming to stay in the 1500 calories a day area to lose 1-2 pounds a week hopefully!

in reply to Hazelorraine79

I use Nutra Check - I have set up a spreadsheet of the regular foods I eat so it is easier to check them and just added to this as they cropped up and thought 'Ooo I forgot about a tin of tomatoes' etc and just added it to the list

I have split the list into meat / tins / fruit & Veg / miscellaneous

Hi and welcome and good luck on your journey :)

here is a bit of my spread sheet for you (Dairy & Miscellaneous)

Humous2 teaspoons = 86

Kingsmill WholemealSlice = 93

Knorr Stock Cube1 (450ml) = 22.5

Milk in Coffee30ml = 14

think its a good idea to make up a little spreadsheet of food i regularly have

thanks !

here is a bit of my freezer list - I went through my freezer and did another spread sheet - this way so much easier at a meal time to get out x, y, z as you already have an idea of how many calories are in an item

Peas 4 tbsp = 49

Spinach 3 tbsp = 22

Sea Bass 100g = 174

Cod fillets per fillet = 66

Trout 100g = 149

great thanks ! i want to succeed this time and maintain a healthy weight. i have to see this as a lifestyle not a diet!

in reply to Hazelorraine79

I am only in my 4th week and it has taken a bit of prep to get organised, but so worth it

Don't forget to measure yourself as well as weigh, as this week I lost nothing on the weight side, however l measured myself the first week and as I was disheartened on the Monday weigh in this week decided to check the measurements and woo hoo I had lost there so that boosted me on again

By counting the calories and checking the portion size etc you can more or less eat the same as the rest of the family :) which is far better than having to cook separate meals.

So tonight, we are having homemade pizza, the boys will have pepperami etc on theirs and i will give that a miss and have veggies on mine, however mine will be a smaller portion than they have (boys = teenagers and hubby)

Last night we had roast chicken and it was yummy, I only had two small boiled potatoes, while they had roast and I had more veg than they did - but it was one meal cooked for all

Hope that makes sense :)

Good luck you can and will do this with the help and support of this forum :)

Would I recommend this site? Absolutely. Not only are people here genuinely interested and committed to looking at a way of healthy eating for life, but the support on here, every day, every hour, is second to none - there is always someone to encourage you when life is not going according to plan.

This is definitely a no fad forum, and a no fad plan to go with it. If in doubt, just have a look at all the scrumptious recipes in the recipe section - that should convince you of what we think is good to eat.

I use an app called "lose it!", but I know others use My Fitness Pal.

If you put your stats into the NHS BMI calculator, you should get an exact calorie allowance range based on your height, weight, age, gender and activity levels. I find it to be more accurate. Eating at the bottom end of the range will see a faster weight loss.

Sometimes if you have a large amount of weight to lose, eating too few calories can have just a detrimental effect on weightloss as too many, as your metabolism slows and your body thinks it's being starved.

See what you think 😊

Hi hazelorraine

Trust me this is the best site you could ever wish to be on , I have gone fro a size 14 down to a size 10 never been a 14 in my life before ! Ihave always had to watch my weight and I have been on every diet out there ,everyone you can name I have been on , but this is totally different this is healthy eating and if you stick to the amount of calories you are allowed each day you will do it don't have any bad stuff in the house I don't NO biscuits cakes crisp chocolate I gave them all away I have a treat a small kit Kat on a Saturday night and I now find them to sweet !!!

You can do this love just stick to your guns and don't make excuses aNd before you know it you will be the size you want to be .

Good luck and have a good week
