Swallowing and not chewing

Today I realised the reason why I'm gaining weight eventhough I'm ''dieting'' is because I eat too fast. I don't think I even chew. Just swallow.

My stomach is in a delusion that I haven't ate enough making me feel more hungry...

I am also guilty of this and I'm really trying to make a point of chewing my food more thoroughly.

I would like to say not chewing enough put my weight on but alas it's not so as I am always the last to finish at the table by far. Mine was just very bad food choices which I am tackling now, so I hope you have actually highlighted one of your reasons and it helps you in your journey.

Best wishes Bev

Have you ever read the book by paul mckenna "I can make you thin" ?You can buy it for a couple of quid on ebay and that has about chewing your food in it, and only eating when you feel hungry and stopping whenever you are full, and I personally know someone who is following that exact plan an has lost 5 stone in roughly 6months .

Ive bought it but find the chewing part quite hard to begin with ?

Me too

Good points 😊

I've always been a fast eater and never waste anything. Even grains of rice are meticulously eaten lol. When my husband and I first got married, it used to annoy me intensely when he would leave food on the side of his plate. He still does it now, but that probably explains why I had weight problems and he didn't.

I find drinking a pint glass of water before eating, eating smaller mouthfuls, chewing more slowly and waiting at least half an hour after my meal before I decide to eat something else helps me.

Other people's weightloss stories inspire you to achieve 😊

Try to learn to eat with chop sticks! Put your fork or spoon down between bites. Forget items for the table napkins, salt, pepper anything you may need to make you remove yourself for a brief time. Many can support you in this keep us posted and keep asking for help, everyone is on a journey.

I eat so fast it makes me quite annoyed! 30-45 minutes of cooking for five minutes of eating!! it's so hard to stay constantly aware and I did get quite good at eating slowly but when I stopped actively trying, I just sped right back up again! I definitely feel fuller if I eat slower and chew more!

I have this problem also (even though that is not the only reason why I'm overweight). At one time I tried to eat everything with chopsticks. I just became very fast with them so I changed to eating in the same rhythm as my coworker who was a very slow eater. Every time she took a bite, so did I. She talked a lot while eating. I stopped before I did her harm. This is still a problem :S

Yes, there's a lot to be said for slowing down your eating rate - not always easy to remember, though! You can help it along by:

- setting the table nicely so it's a more formal meal

- putting the knife and fork down between each mouthful

- pausing after each mouthful is swallowed
