Confused about the kind of diet I am following

Hello,

This is my first post. I need a second opinion and I am confused. for the past 8 or 10 years I have been overweight, it was morbid obesity. I hated myself and could not stand being that way. 15 months ago I heard about the Cambridge weight plan, I started it and wow! I lost about 67 lbs. It was a huge leap for me! But I still need to lose about 60 lbs. The thing is I got bored with the CWP, I dont know whether I should change it or not. Today I started taking Glucophage (metformin) for weight loss. I dont know if its OK to take it while I am on the CWP or not. I just want to get rid of that weight. I dont want to talk to my CWP dietitian about it, I am sure she will not support that.

What should I do?

I know nothing about metformin and after reading about the dangers of taking slimming pills last week I would suggest you need to speak to a health professional about continuing. As for the Cambridge Diet, me and my daughter were following this weight loss programme a few years ago, as you say, you can lose significant amounts of weight in a very short time but let me tell you...it wont last. As soon as you start eating regular food the weight will creep back on. You can't live your life drinking shakes and eating special bars what you do need to do is change your relationship with food and start a healthy way of eating. Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, I think it's an excellent way to lose weight. You wont lose weight quickly, it will be a slow process but it will be a safe and sure way to change your eating habits for good. Good luck to you and I hope you find a weight loss programme that suits you.

What are you doing taking metformin to lose weight? It should only be prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Please don't take metformin to lose weight. This drug is for type 2 diabetes and should only be taken when prescribed by a doctor, you could do yourself real harm, please stop unless you have been prescribed it for diabetes!

On a more positive note, well done for losing 67lbs,thats immense! I also did Cambridge and was on sole source for 5months,lost all the weight but as soon as I started eating again I put it all back plus more. It doesn't change unhealthy eating habits and I think that is the problem with it. The key to successful weight loss and maintaining is sustainable lifestyle changes, have you looked at the NHS plan? Might be worth trying calorie counting for a while and see how you get on, I use the my fitness pal app.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do! 🌸
