Hello,

Well you've have started looking at it the right way, it is a lifestyle rather than a diet :) Without knowing of any health issues that you may have or how active you may be some general advice is to increase protein and decrease carbs. Eat plenty of veg, fruit has sugar in it, yes it is naturally occurring and therefore better than processed crap but it's still sugar, some fruits are better than others so do include some fruit. Try logging what you eat, this was areal eye opener for me, I did have to start by weighing portions but soon got used to what each weight looked like. i use MyFitnessPal, it gives you a daily calorie/carb/sugar/protein allowance and you try to stick to those amounts. You don't have to do without your favourite foods, you can still have them, just in moderation. Increase your activity, I have tried several types of exercise and now just stick with the ones I like, forcing yourself to do something you don't enjoy means you're more likely to give it up (or at least it does for me!). Keep an eye out for Gingernut's post on the 5:2 diet, it's not for me but many people on here seem to have had success with it, she'll post the links to the info so that's worth a look.

Good luck :)

Hi, sorry I didn't reply before but my mother's had a nasty fall and is in hospital so I've been with her.

Here's a useful little link to the 5:2 Diet youtu.be/W9Aj6hRYg4A which is really effective and very easy to follow. It's based on a fantastic BBC Horizon programme which aired in August 2012 called "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b... and it honestly changed my life. I do recommend you watch it and be inspired! It is said to also reduce the risks of cancer, diabetes and dementia.

I lost three stone in six months up to April 2013 and have kept it off since then by just 'fasting' one day a week, but I know of people who have lost masses more. I'm going to do it for the rest of my life. I'm 64 and I've never been so slim or so fit and healthy!

If you have any further questions please do get in touch with me.

Linda xx
