Morning sickness

Hi

Just wondered if anyone could describe what morning sickness feels like? Is it just nausea or kind of flu like? Or is that the tiredness? Or am I making this all up in my head?

I felt sick all day like I needed to burp lol... When I was 10-17 wks I was sick at 7pm on the dot everyday.

I found nachos and peppermint tea helpful xxx

Maybe not had enough nutrients and too much junk. I have just had a pint of water and a bowl of organic veg and chicken in tomato sauce. Now I feel better. So weird ha ha xx

Thank you. I don't think that part has actually sunk in yet! Eeek. He he xx

For me I just get a wave of nausea coming over me kind of like if you are hungry and feel sick from being hungry. If I can eat something I feel a bit better. The tiredness is something else I just yawn lots lol xx

I felt vaguely sick all day long from 6 weeks until 13 weeks. Was never sick and felt better if I was eating. Was a little worse if I didn't eat as soon as I got up and used to go to bed feeling sick.

I generally felt really unwell between 9-10 weeks.

It does get better!

I can't believe how much better I feel having had some wholesome food! I thought I was going to have to crawl to bed! Ha ha. Xx

It’s weird that you feel sick but eating helps. Can’t say I’ve been eating wholesome food this pregnancy. Feel that I’ve been worse than normal.

in reply to Mantaray75

Oooh, that makes me think even more so then that it is something pregnancy related. Good, I think. Just have to make sure I notice what I am eating he he x

This sounds like what I had. Was only ever sick twice but nauseous all day, better when eating. It lasted til about 16 weeks but came back every now and then x

The exhaustion can feel flu-like, like you are run down. My nausea was and still is worse when I’m particularly tired xx

in reply to WeeMrsH

I must get more sleep and eat less rubbish by the sounds of it. As well as making sure I drink plenty of water! Xx

Thanks for your reply xx

Mine started at around 6-7wks, I’ve felt literally sick first after I’ve ate lovely burritos and it was at around 9pm. I’ve never was vomiting in the morning but I had strong nausea in am. I was vomiting mostly at around evening time after dinner times-in total maybe 3-4times, but between 6-14wks lots of nausea, felt so sleepy too especially in afternoons, and proper carving for ‘men type’ as I call food😉

Crikey, I hope you are feeling ok now? X

Hi Camillage, happy that we both made it to this side of the site!

Below is my experience but I am having twins so maybe it will be worse than singles...but then I don't have a single pregnancy to compare to so I can't really tell you the difference.

My morning sickness started just before 7 weeks. It started off with losing your appetite... You feel hungry but as soon as you see food in front of you, you just don't want to eat it. Then it got worse... Eating anything gave me reflux... And after that stage (which is probably in a matter of a few days) I started puking too. Certain food/smell will send you holding the toilet with your head down. It's not a nice thing to go through... I'm 11 weeks now and I would say I feel the worst part is gone. I have gained some of my appetite back. Basically I lost around 3kg in these 4 weeks...

I hope your experience will be better than mine. Some (very lucky) people don't ever get morning sickness and I really wish I would have been one of them!

Ohhh, that sounds so hard. How on earth have you survived? Yes, soooo pleased to be here although I still feel a little bit like an interloper who will be found out ha ha. Once the next scan on Saturday is done I think (hope) I will be much happier xx

Hahaha. I have been a little silent these days but I have been spying on both the nct and fertility network! Funny enough my "morning" sickness is actually evening sickness so work was fine (not that it would come before my/my babies' wellbeing). If you ever feel sick, eat something plain. I have found belvita's helpful. Something easy on stomach. Orange juice was a god send. Milk was soothing too. But you gotta find that magic food that works for you. Make sure you never get too hungry (I have a box of digestive biscuits next to my bed in case I wake up at night - to pee mostly). Tiredness triggers m/s too so make sure you get enough rest. I have got some travel sickness bands too, which is recommended by my cousin (and a lot of people on Google). I can't tell if it helps but I would have done (and did) anything not to feel sick all the time. Forget about healthy diet for the time being. Just eat whatever you can keep down. I hope you will not need these advice but last thing - just remember it will get better eventually! And it's also a good sign that your baby is settling! At least on the emotional side it helped :)

in reply to Mifkipi

Thank you so much for your help. I really think I overdid it today without eating and drinking enough. Will make sure I have access to food each day!! (Loving this excuse he he) xx

Oh and the scan was nerve wrecking, but it's all worth it when you can see the baby's heartbeat! Best of luck xx

in reply to Mifkipi

I had one at just 6 weeks (last weekend) and had to have internal. Saw a wee beating heart in a blob. Then had some irritation discharge the next morning. All settled now thankfully. Honestly, it was amazing to finally see something and know that everything was where it should be. Next one is next weekend which will be just 7+7. Looking forward to seeing a baby shape rather than a blob. Yipppee! X

My last scan was 9 weeks and also internal...and I still only saw a blob... My consultant was telling me that that thing on the screen was my baby's head but I just couldn't quite picture it ha. Hopefully I'll see more in my 12 weeks scan. It's such a long wait isn't it x

Ok, so reign back on my expectations then! He he x

I’ve felt like I’m kind of hungover, so tired and if I can get an afternoon nap in by 2/3pm I’m taking it haha for me my sickness started as retching and mainly in the morning and from certain smells then from about 9 weeks I started to actually vomit.

I still get waves of nausea now and haven’t finished a meal yet cause I find eating to much makes me feel sick to. Apparently it’s meant to ease but I’m 16 weeks now so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ xx

I had just general feeling sick and the thought / smell of certain foods (usually things I’d love like basil and watermelon?!) made me want to actually puke 🤢 wasn’t actually ever sick though. Nearly once when I walked past a bin outside a fish shop!! And the tiredness is really real. I didn’t realise I’d felt so weird until I felt better at about 11 weeks! X

I think I have definitely reached the tiredness stage. At first it was quite light - almost like I felt like I was being lazy. Now I feel like I am in a fog of tiredness ha ha xx

For me it starts with a queasiness in the morning. Then the queasiness starts to last all day and then before you know I’m vomiting all day too.

It usually puts you right off anything healthy like vegetables so if you can eat them then go for it but I’m hoping you’ve just got a bug and it will pass as being sick is awful!

If it is then eating little and often can help. Usually junk food!

I get hyperemesis gravidarum so I get more sick than the usual person, I’m 28 weeks now and still feel ill and only stopped being sick 4 weeks ago. But my friends who had morning sickness all seeemd to feel a lot better by about 16-20 weeks xx

in reply to claire16c

Ok, that sounds awful. How on earth did you cope? All this to look forward to I guess! Xx

claire16c profile image
claire16c in reply to

Hopefully you won’t get it as bad! I had to take medication and have my parents and husband look after me and our little girl it’s been awful but I’m coming out the other side of it now. Luckily I managed to avoid going to hospital like some women do.

If you start feeling sickly it can be helpful to carry snacks and a drink with you everywhere x

in reply to claire16c

Thank you. Good tips. I am feeling a little queezy today. Trying to stay hydrated

For me, with my son it was like feeling hung over.

Around 10am I felt dreadful, found it hard to get moving then I’d get the saliva overdrive and bluhhh - I’ll say no more.
