I gave birth 12 weeks ago and still have a smelly discharge.

I told the doctor about it at my 6 week check, and said it was very different to the bleeding post birth and smelled like a school boys' toilet. He felt my stomach and said there was no infection. He was only interested in prescribing contraceptives. Is this normal and will it go away? I'm Breastfeeding so not having periods yet.

My thoughts are every woman is different & our bodies can at times take a bit more time to get back to normal. My advise would be to try not to use too much shower gels & other body washes as most of them contain alcohol.

I had a bit of retained placenta with my first... stomach felt soft but it smelt like rotting meat down there. .. and then this grey bit of what looked like rotted meat came out! And that was 2weeks after. . So I would go back and demand a second opinion if u still have a smell and it doesn't feel right. .. No harm in double checking xx

10 years ago now with my 1st born, I remember I had a soreness and a pulling sensation down there. It still hadn't healed totally. There was also a lingering smell no matter how much I washed. The stiches, that they assured me had dissolved. I had to keep going back and eventually, on closer inspection, sue enough they hadn't totally gone. Someone had done, at least, a quadruple knot that wasn't going anywhere fast. If you did have stiches, just ask them to check again. I hope your issue, whatever it turns out to be gets resolved soon.x
