Covid 19 vaccine derived Polymyositis

Prior to receiving the Pfizer COVID vaccine I was healthy, strong and active. After receiving the second dose of the vaccine within two weeks I noticed a severe reduction in strength in my arms which over a period of 6 months of investigation and GP delays has resulted in a diagnosis of Polymyositis and now severe disability being unable to walk, raise from a seated position or climb the smallest of steps.

Has anybody else had a similar situation where there is a high degree of probability that the COVID vaccine has had a causal effect in the development of myositis.

Yes, exact same thing happened to me, but after the first Pfizer vaccine. It kicked in the day after the vaccine in March. I have been hospitalised but no definite diagnosis. Severe pains in my neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs and feet. This continued for 6 months and only now has eased up somewhat. I am on Vimodo for now which has helped. I have been told I may have fibromyalgia or maybe some type of myositis or Giant Cell Arthritis. Out of work for 7 months now

Sorry to hear that you have a similar situation, I have heard from several similar cases via the myositis Facebook page now in which one person refers to it in her medical records as Pfizer Vaccine Syndrome.

It’s taken 6 months for my diagnosis going back and forth to hospital so now I can only hope I start to see improvement where none currently exists.

Hi, I am sorry you have had a bad reaction. I was diagnosed with Myositis in 2017. I have had 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and a booster (which I gather is a full dose) and I have had no issues at all.Best wishes

Hi Peppa2012. I am convinced my myositis started after my first covid jab. I was experiencing some muscle weakness for years before this at a low level but it became a bad acute episode after the jab. It was also proven to be caused by statin therapy but the covid jab triggered things off. A doctor friend has said that she has experienced a lot more patients developing auto immune diseases since the covid jabs. This is anecdotal but is a strong indicator of a causal effect.

On the positive side it has taken 3 months but I am starting to see a lot of improvement now after steroids and methotrexate. Hope you get the treatment you need and regain your mobility..

Sorry to hear you have had a similar experience, I too have heard that the Pfizer vaccine has produced a much higher number of similar cases than is obviously being reported.

I am in absolutely no doubt that my condition is a direct and causal reaction to the vaccine and whilst I was on statins for three years I had no issues of muscle related myopathy.

I had my second jab in May after which I started with symptoms and have been on steroids including a round of pulse steroid therapy (1mg p/day by drip for three days) since mid September and have just started on Methotrexate. My muscle swelling has reduced so hopefully I will start to see some improvement but for now I am still disabled to a considerable degree..🤞

I’m in a similar situation. Had an awful reaction to the first AstraZeneca vaccine but fine after the second. Then with in 2 weeks of the 2nd vaccine developed muscle weakness in the chest, multiple sites of pain including neck, shoulders, elbows and abdomen. Got to the stage where I couldn’t climb the stairs or raise my arms due to weakness. I’ve now been diagnosed with Polymyositis.

Hi Peppa, so i was on Atorvastatin for years without issue , then i caught Covid and now i Necrotising Myopathy. My specialist says there is no proven link and its a coincidence but after plenty of research im convinced Covid, the statins and my auto immune condition are linked. Funny that they stopped me taking the statins on my very first hospital session ! Anyway 8 mths on im on a daily cocktail of 50mg per day of Prednisolone steroid (was 60), Lansoprazole & Ad-cal & weekly Folic Acid, Methotrexate. Im definitely feeling better and more mobile . Good luck with your recovery

Hi, my mum had her first dose of Astra Zeneca on February this year and within 2 weeks she was experiencing muscle pain and weakness. Her CK levels also rose dramatically. Many tests later including a muscle biopsy she was diagnosed with Statin induced autoimmune necrotising myosotis. (She stopped stains 18 month prior to this happening.) whilst we recognise this could be the case and made her muscles weak, we cannot move away from the fact that she was active, fit and healthy prior to the vaccine with mild weakness and now she is lying in a hospital bed only walking with a physio, OT and a wheeled frame. She cannot stand up straight and struggles to dress herself. I am doubled jabbed and just had booster. My family also have received the vaccine with no known effects. Perhaps the statin caused a weakness but we feel the vaccine is responsible for the symptoms we see now.

I walked from my car to the surgery, 2 minutes, to get my first AZ jab. Within a week or so, things for me started to change. I never put them down to the jab. I was breathless, could barely climb the stairs. I could barely walk 10 metres without stopping. I was beyond tired constantly. By the time I came to go for the second jab, I had to book into a different location with parking facilities as I could barely walk. My first jab was April 21 and by September 21 I was admitted to our nearest hospital, stayed there nearly a week before I was transferred to hospital in Newcastle as I was very poorly and needed more specific care. I was there for 3/4 months. In hindsight, everything screams to me that the vaccine caused it. I’m now using a wheelchair, crutches, shower stool among other aids. Loss of job. Fatigue is phenomenal and the loss of independence is brutal.

Hi Peppa2012, I had exactly the same. I had mine from the first vaccine. I had such a clear and detailed chronology of my illness by the time I hit the rheumatologist that they wrote in my notes ‘clear and temporal link to the covid vaccine’.

I have dermatomyositis, the skin rash presented 2 weeks after the first vaccine and the muscular issues came 2 weeks after the second vaccine.

My specialist said there might have been another non-covid universe where I never developed dermatomyositis or some other environmental issue could have triggered it at some point. I understand that at my age it’s either an environmental trigger (like a vaccine or illness) or a cancer that can trigger it. In many ways I feel I got off lightly.

Not sure where you are on your treatment pathway but once I got in the right treatment I’ve been 100% better than I was. Like you I was active etc, I’ll never be that woman again but I can get about and I can function. I was also at a stage where I couldn’t walk, get out of a chair, climb stairs or dress and clean myself. I can do all of that now, so much slower than before but I can do it!! Try to keep some kind of activity going, even in the hardest days-flap your arms about, try to raise your legs. When the meds start to make a difference the muscles will start to come back. There is hope I promise.

Good luck. Xx

Hi Peppa. On a recent trip to my Neurologist I mentioned that I thought the first vaccine triggered off an acute episode of statin induced myosotis. He confided in me that he had reported several cases of this but was told to politely not send any further negative reports. I smell a government cover up!!!
