High Ferritin and High LDH - any thoughts?

My last blood test brought up strange results, which my doctor wants to 'discuss' with me. I'm seeing her on Monday.

I have had high ferritin for over a year but recently it has been rising at an alarming rate, literally within days. I have had a cold/sore throat, so that has possibly elevated it somewhat!

However, I also got high LDH- architect (Lactate dehydrogenase). This, apparently, (I'd never heard of it) is in all tissues but is only released into the blood when tissue is damaged. In other words, I am experiencing cell death. Or a part of me is!

I've tried Googling the two things together and get zero result. Plenty of ideas for one and plenty for the other, but not for the two together. Has anybody any ideas for why these might be occurring together, or any experience of having these two things together, or of any relevance to myositis?

Out of the choices for high LDH, it seems unlikely to be my liver, kidneys or a heart condition. The two most likely is muscle damage (I suspect Dermatomyositis, hence me asking her to check) and cancer. Obviously the idea of cancer worries me!

If anyone has any ideas, or personal experience of this I'd be grateful to hear them. Thanks!

It's possible your having a flare of your Myositis & your treatment may need to be adjusted.

Thanks, Jo, but I haven't been diagnosed with myositis yet - I haven't even seen a rheumatologist, although I've been on the list, allegedly, since September. I wish I had a treatment to adjust!

Sorry to hear you have not received an appointment.

I would advise if you get to the point your really struggling go to A & E, but on a week day. Although my diagnosis was 25 years ago I was in a similar situation waiting a long time for an appointment. In hindsight I would have gone to A & E far sooner, rather then my GP sending me when it turned out by that point I was seriously ill.

Here's hoping I never get to that point, Jo!
