Hi,

I would like to know what myositis suffers take to help deal with the pains and aches. I was taking paracetamol everyday. It didn't do any good so I stopped. I then started taking Ibuprofen which does help but I found out recently that you can not take it for a long time. I only take occasionally when pain is really bad.

help

I can only take paracetamol for polymyositis as I am allergic to ibuprofen.i take the effervescent soluble kind as I have swallowing issues. When I was 21 I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and was on ibuprofen for. A long while but my stomach started to bleed so I was put on another drug.RA disappeared after about 10 years.

Hi I have DM which is like yours but it affects the skin as well. I take naproxen for pain, I'm surprised that you haven't been prescribed it, it's an anti inflammatory.

I will definitely ask for pain meds when I see my consultant next time. I will probably show up with a least of meds. thank you

I’m sorry to hear you are having pain but that seems to be normal - contrary to much of what we read. I take Tramadol and Gabapentin for nerve type pain but Meloxicam for joint and muscle pain. I can’t take anything though that goes through the liver due to other medications. I am also on Imuran. It doesn’t help with the pain but with the muscle weakness. It replaced the prednisone I was on.

I need the pain meds mainly for muscle pain. My joint pains are normally when I have a flare. This is normally how I know am about to flare, my knees hurt so bad when I have a flare.

I will speak to my consultant about pain meds.

thank you.

I take several medications to relieve pain; Etoricoxib (anti inflammatory and take Lansoprazole to protect the stomach), Tramadol, Paracetamol, Amitriptyline (to help sleep) & Buprenorphine (morphine based patch).

Thank you Jo. I will be speaking to my Consultant about putting me on pain meds. I have never actually asked him for pain med. I normally just take ibuprofen when the pain is really bad. I had morphine patch when I came out of hospital but was told I could only have them for a short period of time.

when you take your meds are you pain free?

I have found using Voltatol 12 hour gel to be the best fir pain. I use it first thing in the morning and Kant thing at night and it’s just great, it’s nit cheap but it works. It might take a day to kick in but it’s so helpful.
