Both childhood and adolescent obesity are linked to an increased risk for multiple sclerosis, with higher degrees of obesity further strengthening this association.

And it breaks my heart, because I see so many obese children at the pool every time I go! I don’t understand how people let their kids get so heavy, except that the parents seem to be obese too. I know that many of the kids don’t run around like we used to!

Very true. I would be outdoors running around with friends until near sunset. Now kids seem to be glued to the TV, computer screen, tablet, or phone. Times have changed a lot.

And they are eating massive amounts of highly processed foods, sugary drinks, candy, and pastries.

Sugary drinks, candy, and pastries also used to be a once a week or holiday treat. Now they are an every day meal. Kids should never be obese, barring any medical condition they may have.

No one should be obese. If people ate the right foods in the right amounts they wouldn't be.

At least the kids you are seeing are at the pool, not indoors watching a screen. If parents can't eat right, their kids won't be able to either.

Being obese ups the risk of every major disease known, so this is a very unremarkable revelation , BettysMom . I was an extremely active child but had a serious sweet tooth, so I am surmising that my choice of foods was to blame. We really need to focus on our diets because we are what we eat after all.

I didn't post this to expose a remarkable revelation, did I? But with the rate and severity of obesity in children and adolescents increasing exponentially, it is a cautionary tale.

I don’t know,  BettysMom . This is a cautionary tale as old as time because I remember this as being a problem when I was a child. Do you think that it is a surprise when it is said that being obese is bad for you? As  Peruzzot mentioned, some medical conditions do cause obesity. We really need to be mindful of our diets. I remember that being taught in a health class when I was in grade school. I wonder if that is being taught in schools today.

This was a scientifically designed study. I am reporting the study. Why in the world are you stuck on the idea that it is a surprise to me?

I don’t know why it’s a surprise to you,  BettysMom , just trying to make conversation.
