On May second, I received an itrathecal pump insertion for Extreme Pain in my lower back 😱. Since then, I needed 10 adjustments for an increase in pain & a refill of morphine on Oct 29th. Dr stated that most people are satisfied @ my current dose. But I’m not “most “people.🤪
Obviously, everyone is different( like MS) ,so if I need an adjustment I’m getting one!!
Right now, I’m not having the pain I once did.
I’m able to do some things I’ve been putting off like: clean my room & getting stuff to donate. I still have bad days, but on the good days, i can do something about it.

Would you recommend the pump? I know someone who has one, & he loves it. I am glad they are willing to do adjustments. And that you are having some good days.
YES,YES & YES 🙌 I would recommend one. It not only helps my back pain, but it also helps MS pain. It’s obviously up to your doctor & the symptoms that qualify you. I had to have had 2 back surgeries that failed & scoliosis to qualify… Good luck!!🤞
I’ve always wondered what pain meds would be like in a pump. Me being a recovering alcoholic I’ve always (in the past 30 years of sobriety)looked at drugs as being mind/mood altering. All that being said…there’s the addictive component freezes me dead in my tracks. So I’ve never pursued a pump. Any input from anybody related to the pump would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for inquiring. First of all, No it’s Not addictive in the ways you mentioned, You may need a larger dose to have the same effect. It definitely doesn’t get you “high", suddenly there’s no pain to speak of. I’d recommend it.
I have a baclofen pump (same pump, different med) and the reason they are so helpful for people is because when the meds are delivered into the intrathecal space (into the spinal fluid), it's effective with just a tiny fraction of a dose. So most people have far less sedation or side effects. It wouldn't hurt to speak with your doctor about it, and it wouldn't hurt for you to post the question to the community. I'm sure you aren't the only one in recovery with enough pain to possibly require a pump. I pray that you find relief. 🙏
Kenu has posted about how much a pain pump has helped him. This is just one post in which he refers to it.
Hey, robster, I didn’t know you are in recovery. That’s great. There are quite a few of us here who are in AA or other programs. I have 22 years of sobriety, March 10 is my date. I want to get the pump, but I have a couple obstacles to get over first. Most people I know who have them are so happy with their pumps and the relief from the pain.
I'm so happy that they have finally raised your dosage to the point where it's helping you. I do not have a pain pump (just a baclofen pump), but I have been dismayed by how much you've suffered since having your pump implanted. I'm no expert, but it seems so unnecessary to me! I hope that they can find an optimal level for you very soon. Certainly, everyone is different.
Being able to clean and round up stuff to donate is no small thing. I hope it gives you much satisfaction. I find it helps emotionally to get rid of unwanted stuff!
