Bob blankie sucking
I had a cat that did the same thing. Never figured out why.
😺
Me too, had a cat that would do that too.
He's reliving nursing from his mom, not unlike a child sucking their thumb.
Does that mean he was taken away too young? That’s what I feared for him in the begnnning but a few years later and he hasn’t grown out of it
I've heard that, but I don't agree. It's so normal for cats to knead with their paws, this just takes it a little further. And I've had cats that were orphaned at a really young age, bottle babies, who didn't do the blanket sucking thing. Maybe thumb sucking wasn't the best analogy since kids do grow out of it, but I wouldn't expect a cat to. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about him being traumatized.
Greetings Xvettech. Only thing I can figure is this is the warm happy place they have when they are on mom's teat and were sleeping and eating.
Mine does that too. Someone told me it's because they were weaned off mom to soon
Our Bill does the same! We rescued him at 4-5 weeks old. He is now 2 years old. He will only do it with one certain blanket. And only when hubby is covered up with it.
It's called wool sucking syndrome and can happen if cats are weaned too early. It can be destructive, and I had a kitty that had a bad case of it.
Bob is beautiful!
I wonder if he was taken away from from his mom before he was ready???
All I know is that Bob is probably the most beautiful cat I have ever seen!
Thank you! He has an awesome “personality” too. I wish you all could meet him! He is so sweet and loving! I never experienced a cat like him before!
If you don’t mind, I would like to screen shot the picture of Bob to show my kids. They love cats and dogs as much as I do!
No I don’t mind! It’s quite alright to do so!
If you need/want more picture my phone is full of them! lol. He’s my muse ❤️
have had kittens do this ,i figured they miss their mommy ...
That’s what I thought! But to still act that way when he gets older throws me for a loop!
I can understand missing their mommy cause 22 years later and I still miss mine! Bad
I totally understand how you feel. My mom has been gone 8 years now and I still think about calling her sometimes. I don’t think I will ever stop missing her. She was my best friend. Thankfully I dream about her all the time.
I did animal rescue for 15 years and fostered most of the bottle babies that were orphaned. It is not common, but also not unusual for kittens that are orphaned or bottle fed to suck on blankets or pillows with tassels. I like the thumb sucking analogy as it does seem to comfort them.
My cousin’s cat would lay on her chest and suck on her shirt in the shoulder area. He would also knead some. Vet told her it was showing trust and affection.
