I did call, no help, same thing Blue Cross and Optima say
Rosie, unfortunately the culture we've created with our insurance companies today seems to promote the atmosphere that they do not think they should be responsible for much without a prolonged fight. If you don't mind me asking how old are you now Rosie? Or perhaps you would just rather answer are you eligible for Medicare? I had Blue Cross and they gave me the run around for a bill of $7,800 for almost 2 years. They said they weren't responsible for the bill that I wasn't a member at time of service which was Bull beans! I refused to play the bill because I did not owe it! took me having a collection agency coming after me for the money to be able to sick the collection agency on Blue Cross with all the information I had collected to get them to pay their bill. That was absolutely ridiculous! Well it worked and when the collection agency one after Blue Cross they paid.
Do you mind me asking if you're eligible for Medicare? I checked out the policies and definitely had decided I was sick of Blue Cross and I wasn't going to use them anymore. I very happily landed with Humana and they have done a much much better job of servicing my needs and paying bills in a timely fashion without the runaround Blue Cross gave me.
You can also call the National MS Society at 1 800 Fight MS and see what help or advice they can provide you. It is just a secondary resource that I try to provide to anyone in need of MS services. I hope this information helps and you have much better luck with your insurance nightmare. They just don't get it we are already so stressed out about our disease that we don't need the stress they pile up on us as well! Thinking of you and hoping you take care of yourself until we speak again. Remember together we are stronger! Fancy.
I'm 34. Medicaid denied me because of how much my husband makes and they won't cover me until disability hits and I'm still waiting on a hearing date from my lawyers.
Have you tried getting covered under the affordable Care act at healthcare.gov?
I have friends who divorced in order to become eligible for Medicaid while waiting for disability. So frustrating when people who do need help cannot get it.
Even on Medicare, trying to get medical coverages, as soon as the words MS came out of my mouth or the types of medications the ins companies would hang up on me. I finally called The Mutiple Sclerosis society and they helped me with a number for our state's (Oklahoma) insurance commission who were able to help me as a go between. That wwas a coupke years ago, now I'm n Medicare and Medicaid due to the financial struggles associated with long term disability. It's an absolute nightmare trying to sort through all the pitfalls of the insurance marketplace. Not sure if there's some help through that avenue in your state or not, but it my be worth a try.
