Welcome, Girafflover! Nice to meet you. I think you'll find this to be a supportive, fun community where we can ask questions, share information, or just vent. I hope you'll come back often. 😊
Hello! I think you will find this is a very nice group of people who are all very kind. What do you enjoy in life? What have you done in the past? Please tell me about yourself. Thank you. My name is Kelly.
I think I just sent you a message, Kelly. Hope you have a good day!
Hello!
hi everybody so glad I found this i’m so happy. I am very happy in the nursing home.. we have lots of activities. I’m the president of the residence consul. I’m in the home because I need a lot of assistance. I’m in a wheelchair which helps me get along..
I am 71 female. Diagnosed at 32.. live in a nursing home since I was 55 I was the owner and Director of a learning center. Loved my work I get out once a week for shopping and lunch I like to read books do crossword puzzles, words with friends on my iPad and go to the activities here at my nursing home. We have Bible study here at the nursing home, I especially like that.
I’m impressed! It sounds like you stay busy, and that is a good thing. Doing crossword puzzles is so good for our brains, keep it up. And I am sure you enjoy having friends there in the place where you live. You had a wonderful job, it must have been difficult to leave it when the time came. I bet you were very good at it too. What part of the country do you live in? East coast, west or in the middle somewhere?
Welcome, Girafflover!
I'm not in a nursing home but would like to welcome you as I know that nursing homes don't always result in people to talk to. I've known several people in nursing homes, and most of them didn't have easy Internet access, or any Internet access. It is really good to know that you're able to be online here and communicate with people here.
The people here seem quite nice and you'll usually get replies pretty soon.
My real name is Joan. MS since some time in the 1970s, diagnosed in 1980.
Just want to tell you I’m pretty happy in the nursing home. We have lots of activities with socialization.. I’m the president of the residence consul. I’m in a wheelchair. I enjoyed reading, coloring and brain games.. I’m able to get out because I can transfer to a car. My son lives two hours away and he tries to come once a month. we always go out for lunch, it’s a lot of fun. My daughter lives in Boulder, Colorado..
Wow, that is a long time! I hope your quality of life is good in the nursing home.

Welcome Girafflover! I think you’ll find a lot of really interesting people to talk with in all walks of the world! Although I don’t currently reside in a nursing home, I have a lot of experience as my parents both did live in skilled care. I was super close to my parents and spent quite a bit of time with them. I went to one of the dinners that was sponsored by one of the drug companies for MS last week and they said that one of the really important things that you can do when you have a ms is to stay social. This is a great way to do it. I hope you come back.
Yes, I’m in a nursing home. my quality of life is good here. we have lots of activities which I attend. I’m the president of the residence consul.. my son visit me once a month he’s about two hours away and my daughter lives in Boulder Colorado. I like to read , color, and do brain games when my son comes, I can transfer to a car and we go out to lunch.
That is really positive sounding.. so glad your son is able to regularly visit and y’all can go out for lunch. My sis in law and her family live in Colorado Springs.. it is so lovely in Colorado. I am fortunate my kids just live about 40 minutes away, I go to to the gym just a few miles from their house so I get to see them pretty often 😊 I love to read and my husband is trying to get me to play wordle against him. I’m going to need to practice first!
l love CO too. It’s great your kids live so close to you. I really treasure the time my son takes with me. I also used to play Wordle, but have not for awhile. Currently I’m having muscle spasms in my biceps and triceps, taking baclofen. I went today for a Cortizone shot in my shoulder as I have very bad arthritis. I’m doing OT, stretching the muscles. Thanks for replying. I’m so glad I found this on my iPad. I was the president. Of the MS support group in Fort Myers,FL
It is truly a blessing that the children live as close as they do, my daughter housesitting for a neighbor this week… She is taking care of his 94 pound German shorthair pointer, and intern her puppy has been able to frolic with him. I’ve gotten to see more of her than I Have since she moved out of the house. She is also working, but has been able to squeeze more time with me. I think it’s fantastic that you have been so active being president of not only your local organization for MS but also your community of where you live. I belong to a local MS group but have never actually gone to a meeting. It sounds terrible, but they used to always meet on Wednesdays always my workday at the hospital. I was also on call for the hospital on that day. Basically they’re on the wrong side of town and it would be about an hour drive over there. I get their emails and go to some of the dinners when I’m invited. I have found this forum to be wonderful because in all the years that I’ve had MS ,I really haven’t had anybody else to talk to that really gets what it is like to have this disease. Everyone’s situation is a little different, but I am really grateful to be able to throw something out there when I need experience and advice of people who have been there and done that. I actually responded to you the other day, but I don’t know if you figured it out but if you get distracted like I do ( and answer a text message in the midst of responding to someone on here) you can come back to finish a note… it erases everything that you say lol.
Welcome!
