We’re back from the Alaska cruise, and I’m still in one piece. I got to see some beautiful sights, and it was lovely being away from the heat and smoke. Of course, I missed you all, but I admit it was pleasant to have no phone or internet for the week in many ways.
I’ll keep trying to catch up with posts and hope everyone is well.
Those are so beautiful to see. My son worked in Alaska acouple of summers ago and told me I should go there to visit because I would be able to handle the weather. Then he added but the mosquitoes are really bad. I’m glad you got to go to Alaska and have good time.

Alas, neither my friend nor I were able to participate in any of the quilting classes due to sea sickness, but we still have all the materials and books we bought for the classes. We will have everything we need to make what we would have had to have finished at home anyway. But Glacier Bay was stunning, and if that was all I saw, besides my husband's happy face, it was worth it.
I hope you get to go!

What were your favorite places?
Glacier Bay was the high point. The waters were this incredible shade of teal, the glaciers were magnificent, and the sailing was smooth in the bay. We were on the port side, so we got to stand on our veranda and listen to the thunder of falling bits of glacier ice. Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan have sadly become tourist traps at the piers. We nearly always came to port at the same time other cruise ships arrived, so the ships were vomiting out thousands of people all at once. We weren't allowed much time to really see what we would have liked, but we still got to see what is left of the Mendenhall Glacier, which is right by where my husband lived as a kid. We had high tea at a mansion in Victoria, BC, which is always nice. My husband also got to go salmon fishing in Ketchikan; we'll enjoy the catch for dinner tonight!

Glad you had a great time greaterexp The photo is beautiful! Sorry about those that had to deal with the seasickness. A friend and her mom went on a cruise to Alaska a couple of years ago and had a lot of fun. I just hear a lot of bad stories lately so I don't want to chance it.

My husband knows I have problems with motions sickness, but he felt the route we would take would be relatively smooth, and on a big ship, he thought the motion would be minimal. I'm glad I went, but won't do another cruise!
Didn't their shop have some sea sickness pills for you to take? I've been on one very short, overnight trip and felt horrible. The only thing that saved me from really losing it was the pills from the shop.
I took everything I could, but it just wasn’t enough. I even began the day before the trip. It may have kept the motion sickness at a reduced level, but I think the MS compounded things.
Blah. Must have been rough. I never imagined, until my experience, how horrible sea sickness could be. It's miserable! Glad you could enjoy what you could and really glad you're home!
Thank you. I so wanted to do this for my sweet husband. Though I was forced to lie in bed much of the time, we still were able to get out and enjoy the views. It was well worth it!
We want to go back to Europe to see friends next year and I'm so worried about it because I know I cannot walk much. My husband will not go off and look at stuff by himself, I must go along or he won't go. And I, too, want to see a lot of things but probably won't be able to. Still don't know what to do. Perhaps we won't be able to afford it and that will take care of everything!
I do so hope you will be able to go and enjoy it. I was just looking at travelscooters.com to see if something like that would make it easier if we ever travel again. We rented a wheelchair for use on board if I had any trouble walking, but I only needed it once. Even then, I forced myself to walk very slowly so my husband wouldn't have to push the chair. For his sake and mine, I want to be able to be as mobile as possible for as long as possible. The lightweight scooter idea seems like it might be a win for us both, as long as we can find something affordable. Traveling is expensive, no matter how you go, so you surely want to be able to get around easily to see all you can.
Where in Europe would you want to go? Would there be any scooter rentals there?

So happy you are back in one piece. Did you cruise up the inner straits? Alaska is on my bucket list but the last ocean cruise I was on was mighty rough and I already was having issues with balance 😊❤️
We stayed much of the time in protected areas, but at the point at which we were out at sea, we hit a storm. Already having issues with motion sickness and balance, it was interesting! I still can't seem to get my surroundings to stay still!

I too am trying to catchup on posts. bad depression got me behind. Thanks for sharing. I have an Alaska cruise on my bucket list too. I don't think I would get sea sick, but after the cruise I know I would have sea legs for sometime afterwards.
I am glad you’re back and sorry about that awful depression.
I do hope you get to see some of Alaska. We’d love to go back, but with our car to see what we’d like at our own speed.
