Chronic cough?

HelloI have a simple but complex question. I have had MS for 20 years. I am on ocrevus, which I like but the last 2 infusions i get a nasty cough. I feel fine. No cold no flu no covid. Just a cough. Rarely is it productive.

I have been to lung specialist and I fail some breathing tests, but I always have. They gave me an inhaler that does nothing. Breathing is fine.

6 months ago doctor gave me a -Z pack. It worked and I felt good until the next infusion.

Could this be an infection caused by ocrevus?

Has this happened to anyone, just a terrible cough that makes people give you THE LOOK?

Ocrevus depletes your Bcells which in turn depletes your antibodies leaving you susceptible to infections. According to the Ocrevus side effect info, respiratory infections are a common side effect/risk. Your prescribing neuro should certainly be aware of this. They should be monitoring your bcells and immunoglobulins while on Ocrevus.

how are you old? If you are older than 55 , could you stop your treatment ?

Thank you all for your responses I am 53 years old. My next neurologist visit I plan to address this with him.

I will try another Z pack and kick this cough, hopefully quick.

I agree with Raingrrl. Don't I wait until your next appointment unless it's next week. I would call your neurologist and ask for a CBC and also check B cells and immunoglobulins. People on various MS meds have posted that they are in the hospital with a respiratory or other infection, or that they have an awful chest infection that won't go away, they can't function, and that their doctors can't seem to figure out how to help them. Please don't risk your cough turning into something worse. I'm obviously not a doctor, and I'm not trying to scare you. Maybe it's nothing. But doctors tend to get complacent, and when you have MS and you're on a powerful immunosuppressant drug, you need to rattle their cages sometimes. Advocate for yourself. I wish you the best, and I hope your doctors can get this knocked out for you!

Post-Covid, I can imagine what you mean by THE LOOK. Sorry you have to deal with that!

I have been to the doctor over that and he said it was sinus based.

I know the “ look”! Once I get a cough… I have residual asthma that I’ve had since I was a child and I struggle to get rid of the cough. Sometimes they can really hang on even though you’re not sick anymore. We found my cough was more of an allergic nature and they put me on singulair this treated my asthma as well as the cough. I hope you feel better soon and can avoid those ugly stares from people. I am not taking the safe DMT that you are, but I could totally relate to the symptoms that you’re having.

Valid question I'm on Ocrevus also I do have a chronic cough but I also smoked for about 30 years & figured that was why I coughed. Been quit for over 24 years & only just started my 6th year on O. This day & time with Covid amoung other things yeah people look at you funny. Have you ever smoked? or been around anything that could cause your cough? Oh I also have asthma & that is part of mine. Mary I will be praying for you also.

Thank you for your response. I did smoke about 15 years but quit 20 years ago. This cough really started after I had Covid in 2021. The last 2 bouts were after I had my ocrevus infusion. This time the Z pak didnt help it. So frustrating. Good luck
