Thanks so much for posting this. Very informative. I have been on a Medicare Advantage plan for ten years now, and sometimes think about switching to Original Medicare, but I realize that if I do that, I will incur additional costs for a Medigap plan and drug plan. There are pros and cons either way. Appreciate the info. 🤗

Medicare Advantage plans can be very good for people in reasonably good heath who have routine medical needs and who take common, generic drugs. However, for people with complex medical problems and/or who take expensive or specialty drugs, they can be awful. This is because MA plans very often require pre-authorization for almost all expensive tests, treatments, and medications. And worse than that, they often deny coverage for these, requiring appeals from your doctor before they will cover them. This means delays, more delays, and wasted time by the physicians. Original Medicare does not require pre-authorization; it either covers or does not cover and what it covers is well documented.

Exactly. That's why I have been seriously thinking about switching.

That was the most simplistic breakdown of Medicare I’ve seen. It just affirmed for me that I’m on the right one. Now, if you could just stop my phone from blowing up with someone who doesn’t speak English trying to get me to switch coverages I’ll cancel my skydive!😂

I hear ya! I requested info from an insurer for medigap plans a few months ago. Now I'm on the dreaded mailing list. I get stuff I no longer need in my mailbox almost daily from different plans. They sure are persistent! 😂

My own insurance is equally obnoxious. I get umpteen flyers, letters, and notices from them each month, on top of the actual lists of what they've covered for me in the last 30 days. I had to complain IN WRITING three different times before they'd stop their phone calls. "Are your needs being met; do you need help with anything" I can cope with, but they had some very aggressive men who would start out by saying "Our records show that you're not doing this particular thing. Do we need to send a social worker to your house?". The company said these calls are all "friendly", but I just felt threatened by them.

And don’t get me started on the television commercials. Joe Namath, Martha.😂

They were much better this past season. The government finally investigated these fraudsters and the revolting celebrity advertisements were stopped.

That’s great to hear. I had a friend that was contacted by a fraudster. She changed companies to Cigna which turned out to be a disaster and he told her she could change back in a couple of months or something. Long story short, she couldn’t get in touch with him and I feel bad for her!
