Yesterday I read that a hormone called estriol helps repair the myelin.
Is anyone taking this and has it helped?

Never heard of it.
Interesting. I take estradiol (not for ms). All I know is that my ms keeps fading away more and more. Donโt know if they are related!
Did you spell that correctly? Could it be estradiol? See my other post. Now you have me wondering if that is contributing to my continued improvement! I was already doing well before I started taking it, but Iโm thinking that maybe it could be helpful.
Topically thru compound pharmacy. Nothing noted on MRI so Iโd say no. My last appointment, my neurologist, and I had the conversation about remyelination and she explained to me how itโs so much more complicated than that. There is actually nerve damage that is present within our lesions that have nothing to do with myelination & they donโt know how to fix it.
I can't say the weeks I made my own during pregnancies made a difference in my scans, but I would be inclined to try any of those hormones while the MS is shushed by a med. I think it would take years to see improvements?
I agree!
I asked for any of them and was denied based on the potential for blood clots. The stylist I saw a few months ago is transitioning to female and takes 8mg of estradiol, the same dose used in a MS study, but nothing was mentioned about blood clots. Perhaps it's my age ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I do think it would take years to see MRI changes, but so many have relief when pregnant, right? A blood clot would not be helpful though. I hope you find out what I need to do ๐ตโ๐ซ I'm very curious!
I would not want blood clots !
Estradiol is different and more potent than Estriol . Iโve only read about Estriol being used for MS.
I probably have it confused with traumatic brain injury then, thank you!
I'll be waiting for my neurologist to tell me about it
I did a quick Google search and you are correct! They are doing research on how estriol affects MS. This seems to be the hormone that is protective during pregnancy. I myself experienced a great reduction in symptoms and had no exacerbations during my pregnancy. It's looking like more research is needed but this may be a potential treatment in the future. YAY!
