How often do you get mri's? Mine here ,in OH are every year. How bout yours?
Had an MRI ,on 28th in Feb.& NO abnorma... - My MSAA Community
Had an MRI ,on 28th in Feb.& NO abnormalities found- Yeah!
ππ¨π¨π π§ππ°π¬! I'm glad to hear you had a nice, clear MRI! My neuro orders one every year for my noggin. Over the 30+ years I've had MS and thanks to two disease-modifying drugs, I've had very slow, subtle changes in my MRIs. One of the more recent has been that of "Dawson's fingers" and a little shrinkage of the brain volume (which can come from MS and aging). My neuro's not concerned about these.
My mom, who also had MS, had a decreased brain volume upon autopsy. I asked for it because I couldn't understand why she passed. After all, I was an RN & responsible for her care! I couldn't understand? But , I was told that it's expected w/MS patients. Who knew? Well ,I didn't @ the time.

so what did she die of exactly?
In my time, ppms was not treated...That's why she went downhill really fast.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Sweetheartonvdayl... I found this: "The quadratic age term reflects acceleration of volume decline in advanced aging. Within the age range between 65 and 80 years, estimated declines were 0.40% per year (men) and 0.35% per year (women)." jamanetwork.com/journals/ja.... And regarding MS, "Correlation between brain volume loss and clinical and MRI outcomes in multiple sclerosis" n.neurology.org/content/neu...
Congratulations! After my last exacerbation they did mine every 3 months, but I'm back to once a year now.
Congrats on no abnormalities! Go, girl! Yes, once a year in Mississippi. (I spell it out, because the abbreviation is MS. Confusing!)
Great news! I have one every year or when relapse symptoms happen, whichever comes first.
With PPms, I have no exacerbation or relapses, Sweetheartonvdayl . So, instead of having MRIs every year, I will have one every other year. I used to get them every year but I have not had any changes since first diagnosed, so I am okay with fewer MRIs.
Great news on your results! My MRIs are usually about once a year. One Neuro would do them every other year depending on how I was doing since the last MRI.
my doc only wants to do brain not lumbar or cervical. does that make sense to you out there?
Mine only does my brain, but I've never had any lesions on my spine.
How do you know there are no lesions if you don't test?
They've done my spine a time or two over the years, but the neuro just focuses on my brain if I haven't reported any significant changes.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that you can have brain lesions without spinal ones but you can't have spinal ones without brain ones. The way it was explained to me is that the spinal tests aren't necessary if your brain isn't showing any changes. As a matter of cost and time, they're going to focus on the brain before the spine every time.
all is okay no changes.....congrats on yours
I'm in KY & I use to get ` every year now I get 1 when my neuro says which is every 2 years now.
Good news! I get an MRI every couple of years or if I'm having problems. My MRIs haven't changed in years & I was diagnosed 18 yrs ago. Sorry to hear about your mom.
every year. Used to have them with contrast, but my neurologist doesnβt feel itβs needed.
I have a MRI once every year to see how the two sets of Lemtrada infusions (taken in 2015) have worked. If I have additional lesions (and I haven't), I would need another round of Lemtrada.
After full year of no charge I would go for brain cervical and thoracic annually but I have now reached five years with zero changes so I was able to put it off a little bit and going later this year so @ around 18 months this time-guess neuro will decide new timeframe after that one. Definitely not disappointed π
Yearly
Congrats on the MRI results!π€
I usually have an MRI once a year. Sometimes of the brain, sometimes of the cervical spine or or thoracic, lumbar with or without contrast. Take yer pick!π€ͺ
i noticed docs are not using contrast much anymore. I asked about it and she said it's because the machines are better (Tesla 3 or T3) and contrast is radioactive.
