A life-altering diagnosis can bring your life to a screeching halt, but it can also give you a fresh perspective on your life and how you live it. Slow down and learn to appreciate it. Once you do, you will notice that the little moments are that much sweeter.
I do so agree.. first was the diagnosis of Diabetes.. life altering yes.. out of the military because of it.. couldn't take the pills (allergic) then on shots.. now 5 a day and one weekly.. life altering to say the least.. then Hoshimoto's Thyroid.. another messy body problem.. then degenerative disk disease and thinning bones, another problem.. then MS diagnosis.. and all that comes with that.. yes life altering indeed.. oh, almost forgot.. triple heart by-pass.. now that was fun.. So I would say I have had my share of "life altering" problems.. And I have rolled with the punches through out them all..
I am a survivor.. I choose life! I will embrace any one or anything that lifts my spirit from the cavern that I could easily fall into at any time..
So if you bring me up, I will fight for you.. Bring me down.. well that is another matter.. (kicking and screaming I will fight)
dear Emily, beautifully written. I remember exactly where I was and what I did on the day I was diagnosed 12 years ago as well. I have had to slow down but have not enjoyed it, wishing i could do simple things I could do before; from putting my hair up on a hot day to walking around the mall or grocery store, and especially driving. I call it my "things I used to take for granted" list. However I do like your perspective very much. Maybe i will come around. Keep sharing your positive attitude. I hope it is contagious.
