Struggling with chronic pain . Taking tramadol 200mg but not helping. Doc has supplemented with Nucynta 50mg 3x day. Any one have any experience as to how long it takes to get relief, first few days of taking unfortunately no relief. Thanks in advance for any feedback, blessings!

I have severe chronic pain in my legs. I have been taking Nuycrnta 250 mg for a year now. When I started it took a week to receive the full benefit from it. I do take the extended release form. It’s hard to find a combination of drugs that will help you with pain associated with MS. Good luck.

I do not have experience with Nucynta. Do you take any other medications such as Ibuprofen, Gabapentin, etc?

I learned about the WHO pain ladder in nursing school. It typically recommends adding NSAIDs (if person is allowed to take) and/or an adjunct to opiods. Adjuncts can be things like Gabapentin or some of the tricyclic antidepressants as they have been shown to help with pain relief when combined with pain medications. I will attach a picture of the WHO ladder (picture says it is from pediatric pain management but it is the same ladder for adults too). I know some medications can take a couple weeks to get a benefit.

hello. is it nerve pain, muscle pain? i take gabapentin for nerve pain, works brilliantly, worsening balance is the side effect, and otc drugs for muscle pain. you could try marijauna in whatever for, that is supposed to help.

sandydemop1 meloxicam was my favourite medication, but i had a bleeding ulcer, so i had to go back to otc nsaids. for anyone who takes nsaids, be sure to eat a meal with them. i used to have brie and crackers with mine b/c i thought of it as heavier (rich cheese), but that's how i got my bleeding ulcer and anaemia.
