My Hummingbirds should be heading south in the next week or so! So I won't have to make their food anymore! Yeah! π I have been making it every 1-2 wks since April!
Or so I thought! π€£
I look up, and look again... Are you kidding me? π€£π I now have a woodpecker at the hummingbird feeder! ππ€£

do squirrels steal the hummingbird nectar? We havenβt found a squirrel proof bird feeder. Maybe we should try hummingbird feeder. Then weβd invite ur hb to Fla π
Not so cute, and the picture's not too clear. It was somewhere around midnight. That hexagon is a hanging feeder that's normally flat. He got everything out of it and emptied the tiny porch swing, which had a brand new block of suet as well as seed. He smashed the 18" pottery water dish all over the porch, then he carried off my dinnerplate-sized ashtray and tried to wash it, complete with butts, in the wading pool that I'd just filled with fresh water. It wasn't until the next afternoon that I discovered he'd drained the hummingbird feeders, too, and I mistakenly fed him a second night.
But we did have some adorable babies a few weeks later! They weren't even 6" long, scampering so close to a mother that wasn't much bigger that it took me a minute to figure out what they were. They were all most unhappy to find me sitting on the porch, so they climbed the nearest tree and chattered at me for a while.
Yes, we have blue jays and cardinals also, but mostly blackbirds and redwing blackbirds. Also chickadees and finches. Sorry to see some go south, but they will be back because my wife is a soft touch for every creature in the area, turkeys, deer, cranes, squirrels, rabbits, etc.
I like you're wife!π€£ππ I have all of those too! Mostly in the spring. Although im a firm believer in the bird's have to do their job to!π€£ Like eat the bugs and spider's and worms! So I don't fill it all the time!πππ€£π€ππ
I used to have a problem with lizards on the pole where I hung the feeder. The pests would not listen when I told them the nectar was not for tfemβ¦. So I got a spray bottle with water and sprayed near them.π. Did the trick!
