It's almost time for winter gear!
Mum and I have been worrying for a good 6 weeks now. Our leaves started changing really early this year, and the birds have been flying south for the last 10 days. This is all way too soon for our area. But I'm okay with blaming it on Kenu. π
Ken! what did you do?! Actually after the Summer we had I'm ready for a crisp fall day or a lot of them.
it was 84 here today
I'm as ready for fall as that leaf. We had our first cool night (60) since spring and it felt so good! The hummingbirds have disappeared, the tulip poplars are beginning to drop their leaves, the dogwoods leaves are speckled with pink and red, so it's coming. And not a moment too soon!
I wish my hummingbirds would leave!π€£π Im sick of feeding the little things!ππ€£π€ππ
Mine probably left to join the party at your place!
I have 3 that have been hanging around all yr! And the male will do fly-bys or just stop right in front of you, if their food is empty!ππ€£π€ππ
I had to stop using my giant mug with the big red flowers all over it, because the hummingbirds kept sniffing my coffee.
π€£ππ Should have just filled it with sugar water! πππ€£π€ππ
At least they aren't like our old St. Bernard. He would actually drink my coffee wherever he found it. After I got done laughing about it, I learned to keep it all out of his reach.
OMG to funny! ππ€£ I had a little rotty mix, sweetest lil thing! He ate a caffeine pill! No it wasn't mine and it was blister packed!! That dog went flippen nuts!ππ€£π Running from couch to couch chasing the cats, the kids! π€£ππ€ππ
(I was keeping an eye on him, and had called the vet)
πOne of them had to be first!π
That leaf was just waiting.. waiting for someone to say... and then the leaf just sighed a breath of relief.. πππ
Hey guys fall is my favorite time of the year ππ€£ππΌπ
Finally the hot weather is leaving but I dislike the long dark days!!!
Get out that green spray can, or the loppers, Jesmcd2
As much as I don't like the heat I wasn't in a big hurry for fall this year. Almanac says we are going to have a bad winter here. Check out the map here:

Yeah, I made the mistake of checking that a few weeks ago. I think I finally need to buy some curtains for my windows, take stock of the throw rugs, and bring in a supply of wood.
Sounds like a good plan! I learned about winter back in 1993 when we first moved to Arkansas. We lived 30 miles from town in the country next to a creek. It was beautiful there. We moved there right after the tornado that went through the middle of town. I grew up in the city in So CA. I knew nothing about winter. We had an ice storm the day before Thanksgiving. I didn't have any groceries stocked up other than flour & sugar & coffee. The house was all electric with no generator. The only heat in the house was from the fireplace insert that had a blower that kept the whole house warm... that is until you don't have any electricity because the ice was so heavy that it broke the line somewhere between here & there. My husband's exwife was coming up to pick up his son for the weekend. They got here & couldn't get out due to the storm. We had his exwife, 2 teenage boys & my husband & I sleeping in front of the fireplace to keep warm. Lucily his ex & got along very well (it made my husband nervous). We were supposed to get together with my husband's family for Thanksgiving dinner. We did, all of us, after we helped cut down trees that were blocking the roads. It was a fun weekend! From that day forward I have never let groceries get low. We now keep about 3 months of food for "just in case" cuz you never know...
I'm sorry that I'm laughing. I only had to do that once for 4 days as a newlywed, but I've never lived more than an hour away from where I was born. We didn't have ice, but first came the deep snow, then the downed power lines, downed trees, downed phone lines, and then the temperature fell so far that the water mains froze. My husband had to walk 4 miles through thigh-deep snow to call us both off work, and no one believed us after the fact because those other counties never got any snow! It does tend to make you prepare for "next time"!
Your poor husband. That sounds like the winter we had last year here. When I lived in the Big City I laughed at jokes about country folk not ever leaving the county or town they were born in. I really thought they were jokes. Now I know better. There are a lot of people here that haven't been out of the county. I live in a town with 5,800 people & the county isn't that big. But I get it. I only leave the county to go to my neuro or get an MRI. We are 2 hrs from anything in all directions.π€
Yep. I used to drive 35 miles to work, and the only gas station I passed was 8 miles from home. Driving a 4WD pickup, I was there nearly every day. The nearest major grocery store was 15 miles in the wrong direction. No one ever understood why I couldn't just stop and get bread and milk on my way home...
