Ablation on my nerve

Because I have arthritis in my back so bad, my doctor and I have decided that I am a good candidate for a procedure. I am going in June for 2 appointments at which he will “numb “ my nerve on L3, L4 and L5. If both tests go well, I go back one week later to have him do the ablation. He will use the same size needle, but the end of it is hot and it will cut my nerve. Apparently they have tremendous success with this procedure. I’m looking forward to it and really hope it works. I’m on the heating pad every night. I have been using CBD cream on my back and it helps, but I feel like I need something else. Let’s hope I have some positive news to report! Love to all, Kelly 🤗 P.S. I am not getting sedated for it, maybe I will just pass out 🤣😅

I hope the best for you. Maybe your doctor will give you a script for some pain medication.

It has been a while since I've been active on this site. Mainly due to my MS activity and having getting the covid virus on January 2021. I am hoping to be more active here in the future. Hope all is well with you.

Sorry to hear that you're having these problems with your back but also glad to hear that you're going to get this procedure done that should relieve your pain. That would be awesome if you didn't have to go through this back pain. Best wishes for a successful procedure 🍀.

I feel your pain! I have severe arthritis in my back also and have my appointment for June 9 to have my ablation procedure, and I can not wait!! My back pain is worse than 30 years of MS symptoms. I pray we both get relief from our nerve ablations!

I had it done several years ago. It lasted for about 3 years & then the nerves grew back, which the dr told me they might. But I was very pleased with it. I need to go have it done again but my dr retired! So I have to find one & go through all the MRIs & tests again. I hope it works as well for you.

I’m so glad you had such great results from your procedure. My doctor said some people have it last for a long time, like you. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Wow, three years is very encouraging! Thank you for sharing your experience. I have to go thru two “trials” to make sure they hit all the right places per Medicare rules. My doc will inject four facet joints in L3-L5. So it will be a process before the actual ablation. But if I get relief for three whole years it will be worth all of it!Blessings to all who are living with chronic pain, whether it’s back pain or MS pain or both! 🙏🙏🙏

I too have arthritis in my spine. I tried the ablation in 2016 before I knew I had PPMS. They were effective in the short term but not in the long term. I was seeing an orthopedic doctor at the time. I had a bad fall and the doctor ordered a brain, neck and spine MRI where the report showed lesions “suggestive of MS”. The doctor wanted to do a spinal fusion. I scheduled an appointment with a neurologist who ran some process of elimination tests but diagnosed me initially with RRMS.

I know we are all reaching for anything that might help. You’ll never know unless you try. Good luck!

Let me know how it goes! I have multiple issues with my back so I'm interested in knowing if it helps. What type of doctor is doing this?

Amore55 profile image

A pain/spine doctor is doing it. I really like this doctor, he is the one who realized my sodium level was so low. He is great! I will update you.

erm, can you get sedation? i looooove nerve burns; i get them every six months on my lumbar spine. once i ate something dodgy and vomited just before my appointment. my mum told them and i had to stay awake. though it's only a minute or two, i don't recommend it. i mean it's already painful b/c of the damage and it's nerves, why would you stay awake?

*shivers i will say for some reason i have increased pain for a couple of days after, but by the end of the week it's wonderful. i can pick up my cats without screaming for one, lol. good luck!
