I would like to know if any of our MS colleagues had any long lasting (more than a month) diarrhea symptom following mRNA (Pfizer) Covid-2019 vaccine.
I am 68 years old, MS diagnosed 6 years ago, under daily Copaxon injection DMT therapy. For decades I suffered from constipation and recently I started using bowel constipation release products like Coloplast, until 3 weeks after the 2nd Pfizer vaccination dose.
Suddenly, on 16th July 2021 diarrhea started on a daily basis (one to three times a day, mainly in the morning) including yellow floating stools and yellow grease type of liquid.
My doctor ordered various exams like colonoscopy, gastroscopy, blood and urine tests including the following (in case diarrhea problem was MS related):
1)V.I.P. blood test (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) . VIP is a neuropeptide that functions as a neuromodulator and neurotransmitter. It is a potent vasodilator that regulates smooth muscle activity, epithelial cell secretion, and blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract.
2)Chromogranin A (CgA) blood test that indicates existence of Carcinoid neuroendocrine tumors. Those usually begin in the digestive tract, produce and release hormones into the body and cause signs and symptoms such as diarrhea.
I would be grateful if you could respond to my message in case you suffered from similar diarrhea symptoms before or after Covid-19 vaccination. Thanks in advance.

I had the Pfizer, was ok after first one but second one I had really bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea which lasted a couple of days, my stomach was upset for a week. Hope yours settles down soon. Blessings Jimeka 😊
Hi Jimeka. Diarrhea for a couple of days is in the list of Pfizer potential side effects. But in my case it takes arround 1,5 month now ! Fortunately I do not have any stomach issues, but diarrhea continues eventhough I have tried some medications (Pangreas and gold bladder supporting pills). I continue examinations. My doctor is now seeking a potential connection of MS with digestive hormones getting crazy. That is the reason I asked our MS community in case someone had a similar problem. Thanks for your msg.
What MS has done with me as caused incontinence with both my bowels and urine really embarrassing. That was verified by my urologist that it was a side effect of the MS.
It seems unlikely to be related to the Pfizer vaccine if it took 3 weeks before the diarrhoea started. However, if you have had diarrhoea for more than a few days then you probably need to be taking some probiotics to re-populate your gut with the correct bacteria. Diarrhoea empties your gut of the good gut buddies and can let the bad ones take over, perpetuating the diarrhoea problem.
Thank you for your advice Frances_B. I will do so. My doctor told me today to start getting 4 probiotics per day (meetab.ch). Exchanging opinions in our Forum with people facing the same or similar health problems is always extremely useful.
I didn't have that for a reaction to the shot but a couple years ago I lost 20 pounds in 10 days. So weak I couldn't walk around my house. My colonoscopy showed yet another auto immune disease. It's called collagenous colitis. There are no FDA approved drugs for it but Pepto Bismol fixed it for me. I had to take a bunch per day. Like 6 or something. Try a couple and see how it goes. If you hate the taste like I do, Walgreens carries it in cherry. Good luck.
Hi mrsmike8buffering. I checked the internet and it seems my symptoms are very close to collagenous colitis. Thanks for your msg. I will ask my doctor for therapy in this direction.
