Morton’s Neuroma/Fibroma

I’ve experienced odd foot pain and the sensation of having a quarter taped to the bottom of my foot off and on for several months. I assumed it had something to do with MS and ignored it, but will be talking with my PCP when I get home from visiting family.

Do any of you have trouble with this?

Great to see your name again! Sorry about the pain though. I did have a Morton's neuroma, which was a small tumor between my toes. Tight shoes made it unbearable and I would have to remove my shoe, whether I was sitting, or driving. It felt like I was standing on a hot coal, seriously! It was a very bad burning pain. They gave me a cortizone shot there first to see if that would take care of it. The surgery to remove the tumor went through the top of the foot. I would caution you to follow the doctor's instructions precisely, if you have the surgery. They said to keep your foot elevated for a couple of days, but I didn't follow that exactly, and had more swelling than I should have. I had to cut the bandages off before they were supposed to be removed. Hope you get some relief soon!

Thank you, dear. My shoe felt tight, even though they fit fine when I bought them and for months afterward. I never wear heels or tight shoes. I suspect I have minor swelling, making my shoe feel tight. My daughter took me on an emergency shoe buying trip, and the looser shoe helps. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Yes! I have several places on the bottom of my feet that have spots like that. My neuro says it's neuropathy & can be part of MS. Without extensive testing it's hard to tell what is actually causing it & then they still might not know even after the testing. They can give you more meds to help the feeling go away, like Lyrica or Gabapentin. I don't take anything for it. I've had it for several years and have gotten used to it. It kind of feels like I'm walking on little flat pebbles.

Me, too. It feels like my sock is bunched up on the bottom of my foot, in my sneaker...but it’s not. I have finally stopped trying to smooth it out because it’s the same feeling in sandals that have no sock! 😂

I just try really hard to ignore it and wear the most comfy shoes possible.

If it is, indeed, Morton's Neuroma, it's pretty common. It's a little tumor/growth around the nerve between usually the 3rd and fourth toes. You put shoes on, the nerve is compressed and foot becomes numb. The numbness turns to awful pain - for some reason, is worse when you take your shoe off. If I remember correctly, there's no pain if you're not wearing shoes because the nerve is not compressed. The surgery was done in the office, took maybe 30 minutes from start to finish...no big deal. I was in a walking shoe/cast for maybe 2-3 weeks (this was maybe 35 years ago, so don't remember really well). Once it's all healed, you're good to go. It never came back.

I’m so glad your surgery was so successful.

Thank you. It's not really a big deal. It is evidently common in people with neurological disorders like ours. When it became really painful, my daughter took me on an emergency shoe-buying trip, and different shoes made a big difference when walking!

They at least keep the pain down during the day when wearing them!

I’m sorry about the pain. I’m glad the Crocs help. Mine comes and goes, so I’m still not sure what the cause is. I’ll bring it up at the next visit.

The only problem I have with Crocs is they don’t provide enough arch support.
