My rough journey starting MAVENCLAD + relapse + (bipolar!?!?)

I was suggested to change medications from my Neurologist, on account of my relapses being too frequent for his liking. To start Mavenclad i had to stop my previous Gilenya DMT for a period of multiple months during which i was expected to go without any medical treatment for my RRMS. I did everything i was told and all was going smoothly untill (of course) i got a strong relapse that started days before i began my Mavenclad treatment in early March. Now i am one month into this relapse, with optic neuritis and numbness rendering my hands extremely clumsy. I have received steroid treatment but the symptoms are almost unchanged from when the attack began fully in March, i have an appointment in late April, i can only assume i will get an MRI then, but after that who knows.

Living with very limited usage of my hands is very distressing. It is difficult to use the computer, and it feels horrible to take a bath among other things (using the toilet). Yet i've kept up with my morning runs; running 5-10 miles every other day most days of the week. I cant manage a push-up since my arm muscle won't cooperate, so my arms are definitely going to be missing out.

There's not much else i can possibly do to help myself or enjoy my time, which is perhaps the most upsetting part of all of this, but there's no good in getting worked up (and making myself more sick LOL). So, im just trying my best to stay grounded and centered mentally/psychologically as i slowly travel past this challenge.

In other news: my mother indicated that we have strong Bipolar Disorder in our family history and she never suggested anything to me about it!!! I am certain i have been unknowingly struggling with Manic-Depression all of my life, and i am praying to secure a diagnoses. I'll leave that topic for another post....

Seek peace, everyone.

Wow, you are going through a lot. I am not familiar with Gilenya but understand the possibility of a relapse during the washout period before starting a new DMT. I am so sorry it happened to you. I hope your relapse resolves soon. Best wishes for a full recovery

Hopefully they can/will start the Mavenclad soon and that it will help the awful symptoms.

My sister is bipolar. There are pretty good meds out there for that. Just like MS, you have to keep trying to get the right one.
