hi all! I am in a bit of a pickle. Please pray (those who do) for me, I need help! I can’t drive anymore. So I have no choice but to depend on my husband. I have a dr appointment with the MS specialist on Tuesday (next Tuesday). I didn’t realize that it was a holiday week. Making it super hard for my husband to take me to appointment. (He’s a driver and will have go make up his Monday on Tuesday). I already had to cancel April’s appointment because the whole family was sick with COVID and I didn’t want to bring those germs to others. And this was first available appointment I I NEED to see the dr! This summer has been rough. Real rough. I can’t wait to tell the dr of all my problems in hopes he can help! I need his help! It has been a real rough summer! Hopefully it’s just the heat and he can help with something! Hopefully when the weather breaks I will be doing better! Please pray to some how let me get to the dr. It’s over an hour away and an Uber would be too expensive. I do not have the means to pay for it! My brother just started a new job and can’t take me. Please. I don’t know where else to turn. I really need the dr! For those who don’t believe I am sorry to ask this and I mean no ill will! I am sorry to ask even if you are a believer! Like I said I am in a pickle! I truly hope it’ll all work out some how! Thank you all who can help!
everyone who prays please pray for me - My MSAA Community
everyone who prays please pray for me
I don't do prayers but I do do thinking ....
Would your Dr let you do the appointment on the phone or online? It's nearly as good and certainly better than nothing.
Ooo I was thinking that! I’m calling when he opens to find out! Thank you for the input! Totally better than nothing! Thank you again!
As you are clearly a believer - why not put the word round your church community and see if someone will step up to the plate and do the "Christian" thing and help you out? Isn't that meant to be a part of belonging to a church/ church community i.e. help and support each other in times of need? Given that so many people are doing it tough in these tight times, you could offer to pay for the fuel for the trip - which shouldn't be much just for a couple of hours' drive.
Do you have something like Papa's Pal's around there? They drive seniors and people with disabilities to appointments and such. I hope you are able to make it to your appointment!! 🧡
Hi! We don’t. We do have a service and I called and was told that was too far away. They only offer rides in our county. O! Well now I know! Thank you for the idea!
Well, it was worth a try. I guess Uber would be too expensive if it is that far? I hope someone in your tribe (as they call it) can take you. Best of luck to you!! 🧡 And for the earlier suggestion of a gofundme for your rides, maybe you can raise funds that way for an Uber to these appointments, I know it's hard to ask for help, but your needs are just as valid as anyone else's. And if you do one, let me know, I'd be more than happy to support a fellow MSer!!🙂🧡
Lots of good advice here already, and I hope you get what you need! 🙏🙏🙏
You could do a GoFundMe. You wouldn't need to raise as much as many people do, so maybe smaller donations would do it. If you can have someone put it on Facebook, it would help. I agree that a local church might help. Also contact MSAA and NMSS as soon as possible, as they might be able to help, also. Of course, I will pray for you! ❤️
Edit: I don't actually think you have time for a GoFundMe or an MS charity. Those weren't brilliant suggestions on my part, but I do think it might be helpful to contact the MS charities in case you need help in the future.
I have always been hesitant of putting my woes onto go fund me because I know a lot of people have things way worse than I do! Yeah, my situation is not good but some are way worse than mine!
Excellent advice given, Xvettech 🙏
I’m a pray-er and I’m praying right now that your transportation situation gets resolved and that the doctor can get you some relief and concrete help with your MS issues. I have a colleague who was in a somewhat similar situation. Another coworker spread the word and we all pitched in just a little but when lots of people come together it can add up quick. If you have Venmo, PayPal, the Cash app,etc people can donate directly to you. Just a thought and praying things work out!
My dearest friend, you’ll have all the prayers I can send 🙏your way; now and continuously ❤️ Stay strong and be encouraged! Peace and blessings. NeeC
Those are all good ideas. Do you have health insurance? Many plans include transportation to doctor's offices. I too will keep you in prayer.
I believe God will always make a way. When we’re trying to figure it out God has already worked it out. I remember MS Focus offering me an Uber transportation with a distance of about an hr. Prayerfully your husband or brother can shift their schedule with knowing the importance of appt.
All and All I believe things will work out. Many blessings🙏🏾
thank you!
Praying for God’s provision. I hope you call your church community. Let us know how this gets resolved. That phone visit with the doctor usually works well.
All of the health plans includes rides to doctors appointment definitely call your insurance company
🙏Good idea Kit10, maybe an online appointment.
praying for you!!!
Hi Xvettech, Have you tried your insurance to see if it has any benefits for traveling to and from Dr.’s appointments?
You are on my prayer list as of now with one being sent in to Heaven two minuites ago. Please see if there is some local transportation that can get you to your doctor ASAP. And also if there is a Nurse Practioner at your Doctors office have her to come to your home. Will continue to do this for you.
I had to give up driving also, and I don't have a partner. I started off with Uber. I found senior rides which takes me to my Doctor's appointments and no charge. They are volunteers. I also found metro lift, which is a city. Service for community and cost me a dollar and a quarter. Which is better than the $30 Uber bill? I have a friend takes me. But not often. I find it hard to ask people to give up half a day & they have their schedules
So I hope you can find some other resources. Sometimes you have to let them know in advance. Because they have to make the arrangements so that you into the schedule. I've grown used to not driving . I kinda like it because the Houston traffic is horrendous and I feel safe in the big little bus taking me here and there. And anyway, I know it is very inconvenient. But God is good and hopefully. He will help you find other resources prayers for you.
Certainly there is someone from your church who can drive you. I drove someone from my church home from work for the past two weeks as she broke her ankle and needed a ride.
I will certainly pray for a solution.
Hi, Xvettech! You may have already found this on your own, or have other possibilities that you're working on. But I found the application for assistance from MS Focus that MSSimp mentioned. If it doesn't happen fast enough for this appointment, perhaps you could use it for your next one. One thing it can cover is rides from Lyft. 😊

Ooo :(. I checked out that site and it said you must be able to enter on their own I sadly can’t! I can’t even get to car on my own due to the steps to get down (and this chair). We don’t have a ramp cause we can’t afford to so on the rare occasions I leave the house my husband carries me down :/. This is a truly sad existence. At least I have Bob ❤️
It did say that it would cover paratransport, didn't it? I think that means they come and pick you up in your wheelchair and drive you, although it may be tricky unless your husband can be there to carry you down. Even if that's not possible, I think you should call them (their number is on the link) and explain your situation, and just see if they have any suggestions. Perhaps grants exist for wheelchair ramps. You should contact the National MS Society, and MSAA. Groups like these exist to help make life better for MS patients - like you!

I'm very sorry, Xvettech. 😢 As someone who can't usually drive, and spent a lot of years sitting at home except for doctor's appointments, I found it frustrating at times, but at least I could go outside or get in a car.
I think doing a GoFundMe is sounding like a better and better idea. Nobody should be stuck in the house because they don't have a ramp. You deserve more. Please, please be proactive about finding solutions for yourself. They're out there, and again, you deserve help in being able to get out and get around! Everyone does. As MSFlea said, your needs are as valid as anyone else's. ❤️
Thank you I so agree with you! Quality of life needs to get better. Seriously better. Thank you for the links. I will check them out!
Thank you for your help and your ideas and your support! I need that, as no one other than other MS’ers truly understand! I try to be strong but this just keeps tearing me down. Thank you so much for everything! I truly appreciate your help!
👍👍👍
I pray for all of us regularly and will certainly include your need. Wish we were all closer geographically. Hubs and I would come get you ourselves! 🤣 Reminds me of a song we sang in the church choir - "God will make a way when there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way for me.“
Update us, Xvettech, please? Any news? Your predicament has been on my heart.
How did things work out?
